So Dag Solstad gets pinned up on Jan Johansen's crime so Jan Johansens goes free. But Dag Solstad recover and instead of being jailed, he takes a selfie with the hospital's staff and ... goes free? :D

Yeah, I'm at a loss over Dag as well. It doesn't seem like a cultural thing, as in all is forgiven if the perp is in a coma, because Jan was worried to death (no pun intended) over Dag's recovery.
