Jan's <spoiler>

Jan'sHis last words were so poetic and sad ... "Day to day you threw me around, I am a nobody because of you, you have committed a grave sin in your treatment of me"

Very touching, he was a pretty decent multi dimensional
character.

I'm not sure he's dead,but if he is,nice spoiler.

We didn't see him die, however we did see Dag aim at his head and heard the shot. In addition, if Jan wasn't killed, Torgeir would notice and tell Mr. Henriksen.
So, he is probably dead, however the screenplay writers have kept an ever so tiny opening to get him back in again.

Btw, Dag Solstad also is the name of a highly regarded writer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dag_Solstad

In Cod we trust.

He had such a miserable existence after meeting Frank. i hope for his sake the job is done.

He was a much happier person when he could bus immigrant chicks up to his cabin and have freaky fetish parties with them

I'll miss Jan, he was one of of my favorite characters on the show. There was always a sadness underneath his goofy smile and laughter which he conveyed perfectly. His final scene was touching and incredibly sad.

reply

I agree he was one of my favorite characters too. His apparent demise is very reminiscent of the scene in the second or third Godfather movie where Michael had his brother Fredo killed in the same manner.

reply

I caught that too. It was definitely a nod to Fredo's death in The Godfather Part II.

reply

A "nod?" More like a headbutt. He even says a Hail Mary (for no reason other than to beat us over the head with the reference).

That's one thing that irritated me about this show - the gangster movie references were really tactlessly employed.

Agreed. Jan obviously has serious character failings, but he didn't deserve most of what came to him. I found the character to be the most interesting in the show for the most part. Very well acted (which is more than I can say for Frank...).
