Everything's great except for Giovanni

Watched 4 episodes so far and I really like the show EXCEPT for the main character...
Stereotypical, over the top, and with little character development, in my opinion.

The rest of the characters, the scenery, the cinematography, and the simple fact that it's set in Norway and mostly in Norwegian are all great.

I can't think of a replacement but I would definitely prefer a different actor than Steve van Zandt.

I am Norwegian, and I love this series.

But Giovanni is 10 centimeters too short, 10 kilo too heavy and 10 years too old.

All the faults you described are the reasons I loved this show. All the actors were great, the setting in Lillyhammer was beautiful, the life lessons were valuable and it always made me laugh!

reply

Yea! If only he was younger. We love the series and love seeing Norway. We lived there outside of Oslo for a few years. Besides home in America, Norway is my favorite place!

"Giovanni" is a stereotypical, old-school Mafia guy. Read up on the history of the U.S. Mafia from 20's-70's and you'll see a lot of the same type.

All the characters were way-over-the-top

Giovanni is the best thing about the show. He's the perfect foil for all those hyper-PC, dickless, dumbass, Islamophile, socialist Norwegians. If they really are anything their portrayal in this series, they don't deserve to survive.

reply

He is supposed to be like that. If you are not able to appreciate his charactor, you are missing the whole premise of the show.
