Tilted Head = Horrifying (supposedly)

When a character in a horror movie is wearing a mask, 9 times out of 10 they will slowly tilt their head while looking intently at someone. Why? Do you find it frightening? I've seen it so often now it makes me laugh.

Anyone have an idea where this started and why?

I agree it's tired. Also overdone is the super fast head shaking thing- I'm done with that.
