another Blair Witch rip off. lol

As someone else posted. I am sick of 1st person movies like this. Where someone is just following you around with a camera. When I make my films. Most of the time I keep my camera steady. I spent to many years learning how to make a shot look good. I am mostly self taught in still photography and film making. But at the same time I feel like I have an edge on my own style. In film schools. It's all pretty cookie cutter teaching.

You expect people bitching on the internet to put out actual effort to know what they're talking about?

lol!

American Horror Story Season 6: Donald Trump

Neil_Gallagher_Lives , actually they say the first actual found footage film, where the whole thing is a home camera, is "The McPherson Tapes" - https://youtu.be/qBUPqnOlvZk

And, every found footage style movie IS NOT a ripoff of Blair Witch... It's a genre film. THESE PEOPLE KILL ME!

reply

Except for the 1st person aspect it wasn't similar to TBWP at all.
What it DID remind me of was the old satan/witch cult movie Race With The Devil... where a bunch of folks in a motor home run afoul of some devil worshippers and then get followed, harassed and eventually barbecued.
Not that I'd say it's a 'rip off' or even copying that movie... at best it's a possible influence.
You could also toss in The Vanishing... because of its obsessive hunt combined with that ending.

It did have a couple *nods* to TBWP I thought.
One was the one female character to all males. One goes missing, the others try to leave but decide they cannot leave him. The heart in the fridge.
There are couple others, but those are most memorable.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Are those elements that limited to TBWP though? The 'one female to all males' isn't all that unusual, nor are the others really.
Also, those (familiar to me) elements seem like odd choices of what to 'rip off' from TBWP... versus creepy witches, time distortion, getting lost, children's handprints, etc.

i agree the foound footage shaking cam POV is tired and in 90% of cases makes for dull movies. It's cheap to make this kind of film though and the returns can be good even if it's not a blockbuster which is why so many of these types of films get made. Even Shyalaman jumped on board recently but I kind of thought he did a good job with it.
But yeah for the most part the found footage thing has been run into the ground.

And Eddy it's a conversation. People have them from time to time. You should have taken your own advice. No one cares that your all upset.

This film would have been 10 times better (and scarier) if not for the stupid "found film" footage (now cliche) that never seems to go away. It's a fictional horror movie about haunted houses, ok great. Now give me some decent cinematography and you may have a gem.

90% of this film I didn't know what was going on long enough to even get a "scare"
