.... Rubber pipe in the sink, in the last episode?
I think her old flame is lying in bed, and she's in the bathroom fiddling with what looks like a pump and some rubber tubing!
Anyone know what this was? My mind immediately leapt to some kind of horrific birth control - can anyone help me out?

It was a birth control method called douching.

Tt wasn't an effective method for birth control but there were not many alternatives.
Sylvia was obviously very familiar with the method and I presume it was her own device or may be it belonged to Gerald Drake.
You can also see Irene employing this method in the more recent version of The Forsythe Saga. She dislikes her husband Soames and does not want to carry his child.
