Was anyone else completely gutted by [SPOILERS] death?

I was completely destroyed when I learned that Vera had died overseas. She grew so much throughout the show, and I loved how her relationship with Marco slowly developed throughout the two seasons. She had so much potential and she would've had such a great life with Marco. I'm so upset that they killed her character. They both deserved happiness for all of the BS they had been through, and the writers took that away! So sad.

Also, I'm still confused by the whole 'I've been wanting to go to war for a long time' thing with Vera. She had never mentioned it in the two seasons, and then all of a sudden she wanted to during the wrap-up movie. I feel like it was a poor excuse to make sure vera and marco didn't get to be happy/together.
