There is no 'Shasta City'...happened a few miles from my child hood home

In the movie, the cops mention the murder of a mother and her teenage daughter in "Shasta City", Ca. They also do not give the right names of the victims. The woman's name was Donna Eckerd and her 15 year old daughter Janelle. And it took place in a small community north of Redding CA (northern CA), called Mountain Gate.

The victim was a school friend/former co worker of my mother's. This happenned when I was about 10 years old, about 5 miles from my house. We used to talk about how easily this could have been us, since our home was located so close to Interstate 5.
