I was only half listening. What was it Woodfield said to his fiance in the interrogation room about tape on the nose that turned her against him?

While serving his previous sentance in prison, an inmate had told him that puting tape over your nose would make it hard for anyone to identify you.
She knew then, of course, there was a good chance he was the killer.
Kinda strange as the real life killer never used tape over the nose but fake beards and moustaches.

well this is hollywood afterall and they change what they want regardless of what really happened -- HW shoulda stuck w/the REAL story bc either way the killing was gruesome and the poor families went thru hell. just saying ?

Actually the real I5 killer did use tape, or a band-aid as a disguise. Im not sure why you think "Hollywood" fabricated that documented fact.

There are many sites detailing the crime that state this fact

This was a surprisingly good film - well-acted and constructed. Hey- if you are a serial-killer, last thing you want to say to your fiancée to prove your innocence: 'the witness is incapable of identifying me as the killer - you just put a piece of tape across your nose - makes you impossible to identify'
