Ending was atrocious. Possibly worst ever.

It's absolutely clear that she is miserable with her husband and is in love with Adam Scott's character. The film gives us no evidence that she even cares about the husband anymore. Sneaking off to read Jason's letters, pretending to be asleep to avoid him, ignoring his calls, dodging him at work... but then her brother shows her the proposal video and all of a sudden she just goes back to him?

Yes I understand that the film was drilling into our heads that Jason was this lovesick semi loser who needed to move on from the past, but we were given NO evidence whatsoever that she wasn't in love with him, she drove all the way home, made everything perfect, kept all of his letters etc. This just makes the ending that much more stupid.

If she didn't end up with Jason, I would have rathered her end up with neither of them than that bs.

Well, we disagree slightly on this one. OK, not slightly. The ending made total sense to me. Watching the NF video, she recalled what had drawn her to her husband, and she realized that what she was drawn to by frog boy was the feeling of high school romance, not who he was now or what she needed or wanted in her grownup life. She realized that what she needed was exactly what the ending depicted, that for her, the way forward did not involve a rearview mirror.

I agree...
..plus they give you insight into the character when she runs into her friend from HS in town.
Watch her reaction when they are talking. She evens asks her why they didn't go to counseling when the marriage hit the skids(or when they started watching separate TVs).
She is not the type to throw her marriage away like that. She was just revisiting her past (and someone who put her on a pedestal) to work out her present.
Besides what kind of a life would she have with the guy who hasn't grown up?

I loved this movie, and found it sweet, gentle and unassuming like many independent films. I understand and appreciate the perspective that Jason wasn't really right for her, as a man-child still depending on his parents for support while working as a waiter, and trying to sell his frog art. The disconnect for me was how much she romanticized her relationship with him, but turned into a stone-cold, cruel bitch at the end. This is about the writing (they are fictional characters, after all). I feel the twist was not realistic. He set such a beautiful scene, and she crapped all over it. It would have been more realistic for these characters to spend some time talking, and then come to the conclusion together. Still glad I watched it - the acting was fantastic, and the settings were beautiful.

My opinion is not humble.
