the spirit of the game

Just saw his movie and thought it was excellent. One aspect I was pleased about was the proper credit the movie gave to the game. To the indigenous people of my homeland (central NY), lacrosse is not just a sport, but a gift of the creator. As a kid I read all the books I could find on the game so by the time I played, I wanted to honor the spirit of the creator's game. I have a very small amount of native ancestry, but my in my love for the game I always felt a kindred spirit with the natives of my home area. I had the chance to play against them in a local league, and it was a special honor for me. During my many training runs on the roads or in the woods, I'd carry my stick and practice dodges and moves around the trees like the Arrows did. Those parts were hard for me to watch and I cried because I can no longer play, too many injuries and now brain cancer. The desire hasn't faded at my age of 51. I played with all my heart in every game and practice in HS and college.

Lacrosse is life, everything else is details. I will be buried with my old wooden stick.

Thank you for sharing your story and I am very happy the film spoke to you. This film not only entertains but does a great thing for the sport of lacrosse and its devoted community (and is a great family film to boot) and it is this exact reaction (we have seen time and time again with those who have seen the film) that proves it was all worth it. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing, sorry about your cancer.

I had no idea that lacrosse was originally a Native American game, I always associated it w/ preppies. I think this is a wonderful movie.
