Bruce Lee remains an inspiring figure in history even 30 years after his death, his focus, straight-forward approach to putting philosophy into action, his confidence and passion still resonate today.
I think what really connects with me about the man is his style of no style, that middle finger to authority and any limiting crystallization of styles... he believed in taking positive ideas from any school of thought and anything that expresses you in it's truest most sincere form in the moment... and I approach my life in much the same way... that no one should adhere to any single religion, one should learn about them all and take what works from each, like finding the right stepping stones for yourself in everything you study...
I agree 100%, Kupotek. I saw this film for the 1st time last night and was completely and utterly moved. I want to see all his films now and I can see all the ways he influenced, not only Hollywood (Tarantino, etc.) but how his philosophies trickle down into everyday life and how much he believed in everything he did. He was amazing and lives on.

As and aspiring actor myself this inspires me soo much .Bruce lee is a big inspiration in my life because he was a great artist above anything else .Which is what i strive to be
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up"-Pablo Picasso
technically his style of no style is perceived wrong to you people
frankly there is a style, his style or method is intercepting
tao or "D-O" in cantonese ia "a way", example like
karate do = way of the empty hands ju-do = way of throwing taekwon-do = way of punching and kicking
there's a chinese religion called taoism which is about finding your own 'way' or 'path'
frankly ALL peoples techniques even bruces, were taken from chinese kungfu, bruce maybe smart but he should known kungfu is like chinese dialect. People think its only cantonese and mandarin that exist
but there are HUNDREDS of dialects eg. haka
just like that there are MANY styles, all bruce's research has revealed is nothing new and frankly has existed for millenia
you think we don't have only fist styles or only kicking styles or both, or killing styles in china?? we have EVERYTHING
so technically bruce is not the father of MMA, because all this MMA bullsh*t is just stuff that has existed for thousands of years in china
chinese don't do kungfu much anymore and has no conditioning to it, we have been too westernise, ask a chinsee person about kungfu and they say 'get with the times' hence when we fight it looks fancy, but some huge white guy times it right and beats us with one moves like a choke hold....style itself is useless with no conditioning. We have have denounce too much of our heritage like martial arts
plus bruce doesn't stick to his culture enough, yet doesn't turn his nose to the man as you people think, he still writes in chinese for almost everything he can, sticks to a chinese diet and one-inch punch is a principal that has been used in chinese martial arts since FOREVER
he didn't invent it, he merely expressed what whites/anglo/westerners didnt' understand
just like in a 50's movies, people would draw their fist back to punch, whites think by doing it it gives the fist time to travel more THUS stronger (like a slingshot) yet thats dumb as the travelling time gives the opponent time to counter and react, and the recovery time to pull back for another punch is slow
kungfu concept by us chinese is different, its devised scientifically, one-inch punch is just a demonstration to express how this is not necessary to pull back
i.e if our fists both meet close up, i can attack you close range without pulling back or pulling back much, short attack and FAST recovery

how poetic and untrue and irrelevant
just like the chinese movie IP MAN the grandmaster of wingchun played by donnie yen in part II of the movie
donnie yen says in cantonese to a student, (most likely a message to blind bruce lee followers and not legitimate bruce lee fans who are chinese and understand his real life combat teachings that he expresses eg. in 'long street' and 'enter the dragon' i.e the pointing to the moon or don't think you will fail...they are REAL fighting combat concepts necessary to win in a REAL right not cheezy philosophies.
what donnie says in cantonese is this: "what you are chasing is the highest attributes and moves in fighting, what i want to learn is CHINESE martial arts, because it is bound by us chinese people and china's spirit..." etc etc
that was a quick sloppy translation but its meaningful to us chinese people, so for you to say "wow a middle finger to the man"....i say you don't get it, bruce although my greatest idol doesn't express his point properly
his art is still undoubtably chinese, he still uses stances because a chinese saying goes "a martial artist is as strong as their stance" i.e you have to have a strong FOUNDATION first, so even if bruce uses some boxing shuffle he still goes back to basics like stances, i refuse to think he completely disconnected his chinese heritage
and if so i as a fan still love him but disagree with his point, because traditions hold importance and deep meaning that you SHOULDN'T change, i accept the way you utilise those skills need to evolve as the world changes but skills that are bound by tradition shouldn't be changed or forgotten they make who chinese are
just like i don't believe in fusion cooking, "oh this guy is great because he fuses different types of cooking methods, his a genius"...if you destroy centuries or thousands of years of tradition you kill or corrupt culture, you destroy its romantic concept like going to italy that pick herbs from grass and lovingly make a dish, it has passion and meaning to it
and if you dont' get this then you're probably some dumb white person, as you think kungfu is just about punching and kicking
in IP MAN kungfu has deep meaning that IS kungfu, kungfu is a way of life and when fighting the japanese it was meaningful
in an american movie its not meaningful EVEN if that's the message of the movie, its a predictable script
its merely just a dumb white guy with huge muscles, doing asian moves, wins heaps, eventually loses to a bad guy, learns his lesson, bangs a slut, and wins at the end because he magically believes in himself
he fights for a slutty girl? THAT's the deep meaning? sex ALWAYS has to be in a western/hollywood film? sorry but you just don't get it
even yanks making fun of bollywood films, well at least indians can tell a love story about love without everyone banging each other or even kissing

again, Astroboy, all the racism, nationalism, hatred and bigotry. It's all about YOU and YOU only, isn't it! Guess what, no one cares about YOU, because YOU didn't do anything, you are just a racist troll on an internet platform, and a disgrace to the great people of China!
