sex slaves

Was this covered in the movie at all? How the tributes were sold for sex if snow so desired.

reply

It was covered in Mockingjay Part 1.
Finnick talked about it in his propo that was broadcast to provide cover for the victor rescue mission.

Was he sold to men too?

Was he sold to men too?

Neither the book nor the movie specified that. Katniss, before she learned the real story, thought that he was a "womanizer", but that was just the gossip she heard.

reply

I just got to this part in the book. It was very upsetting to think of this poor young man getting sold from woman to woman and possibly man to man.

Also did he love Annie in a romantic way? Was she in the movie?

reply

Yes, Annie is his true love. She's in the movies, but doesn't have many scenes.

I'm glad the books are still getting new readers :)

We see Annie in Catching Fire briefly in the footage of the reapings. She was a previous
victor like Finnick and they fell in love. When Annie is picked for the Quell she goes
a little mad and Mags-another victor and mentor for both Annie and Finnick-volunteers
in her place. We see Annie again briefly when she is rescued in MJ1. And finally we see
the wedding of Annie and Finnick in MJ2. She apparently becomes pregnant after the
wedding but before the assault on the Capitol. And we see a photo of her with Finnick's
son at the end of MJ2.

reply

Especially upsetting bc he won his Games at such a young age, 14. I'm sure he started being sold very soon after.

reply

We are told the detail that Snow waited 2 or 3 years before exploiting him. We are not told why, given the Snow will commit any other crime at the drop of a hat.

The implication is that in Panem one becomes an adult at 19. ( At 18 one is still a "child" vulnerable to being reaped for the games.) Katniss's mother tries to stall her marriage to Peeta on the grounds that Kat is too young at 17. Katniss tells us in the book that high school girls are already thinking in terms of finding husbands (not boyfriends) but that is because they live in a dirt-poor culture where marrying a "good provider" can be the difference between life and death.

reply

Didn't remember that. Thanks!

Also in districts like 12 I doubt they have very good medical care so life expectancy would probably lower, like early 1900's. Got marry while you can
