so let the dweeby trolls have their tiny victory here....NOBODY knows what battle royal even is, outside this tiny forum on this website.

Mockingjay has proven itself...it is a worldwide SMASH....everybody knows it.. from one side of the globe to the next.....battle royal is in 2.99 bins at dusty outlet stores. ask anyone not on this little forum on imdb what battle royal is...they will be like...huh? thats their legacy. no matter how much they post...that will be the end result.

What about those who remember what Battle Royale is is, though -- the top-grossing cult flick of the century thus far out of Japan, which latter became a household name in the continental US when the Hunger Games series attempted to rip it off, ultimately resulting in the downfall of the overly greedy Lionsgate corps.?

If you're referring to the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire boards, or The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 boards, I believe traffic thereto has been at a complete standstill since US audiences became aware that their beloved franchise turned out to be a shodddy copy of BRII, effectively causing Lion$gate studio to go belly-up...

As discussion regarding such plagiarisms are not verboten, as it were, I think its fine to discuss them here, however.

Yeah, but did they ever explained why changed the name for the remake? There was no hunger added or anything, so why didn't they just keep the name, Battle Royale 2?

Even if we went with that backwards logic, then Battle Royale is a rip-off of the movie, Escape to Witch Mountain (1977)

Well seeing as how BR2 enjoys a worldwide popularity from all walks of life while THG appeals only to tween girls of the USA, I'd ask you to reassess my definition of what entails a "cult" film (as I have).

Number of Hunger Games fanfics: > 44,000

Number of Hunger Games fanfics in Spanish alone: > 2000

Total number of Battle Royale fanfics: < 525

Better reassess your definition of what entails a cult film.

Why would Battle Royale 2 fans be into the fanfic scene? There's no teen heartthrobs on display. The fact there are over 500+ for it stands as testimony to its enduring appeal nevertheless, I suppose.

the Spanish dub retained the original BATTLE ROYAL 2: Requiem story more closely than even Collins did.

I guess that all makes sense, all things considered. But my Spanish friends say that Mockingjay did poorly because people were already acquainted with the BRII story.

Not hard to do, since Collins' MOCKINGJAY has nothing in common with BATTLE ROYALE 2 except a civil war.

Premise of Battle Royale 2: Cowardly military men kidnap juvenile delinquents and force them to do their dirty work.

Premise of Mockingjay: Downtrodden provinces rise up against their rulers under the inspiration of a charismatic leader.

Plot of Battle Royale 2: Military men ( and the kidnapped juvenile delinquents) attack an island where rebels are hanging out.

Plot of Mockingjay: Rebels take over the Capitol of their oppressive empire, then fight off an attempt of a treacherous ally to take over.

Chief Character of Battle Royale 2: A lunatic ex-teacher who hates students

Chief Character of Mockingjay: A female soldier suffering from PTSD who nevertheless transcends it to free her people.

Big Scene of Battle Royale 2: A beach-invasion scene copied from a WW2 movie about D-day. Also The lunatic ex-teacher kills himself trying to pull a soccer/football maneuvre. Also one troll said watching teenagers ride a bus was real exciting.

Big Scene of Mockingjay: Two dictators brought down within five minutes with millions of people watching.

So what similarity are there between the two movies' premise, plot, characters, and scenes? None at all, except they are both set during a civil war..

It was a point of contention when Suzanne Collins' first book came out and surprise surprise, it's a point of contention right now again. What do you guys think? Leave a comment and let's discuss!
