I find it ironic that

A book/movie series that is about how our society and media can do some of the most desperate things for the sake of money and so what do they do? They split the last book into two movies for the sake of money. Also many fans like to defend this franchise saying it's not another twilight and that this is a way more sophisticated YA series, but since now that they decided to copy what every YA franchise is doing by splitting the last book into two movies. The hunger games series now falls into that YA tend and so basically it is just another twilight. It doesn't wanna stick out and be its own thing. Now the general audience just views it as another dumb teen book/movie. I'm sorry but I was a fan of the books and the first two movies but because of how much of a missed opportunity with mockingjay they had they thought "hey instead of making a great well paced story, lets just make it really stretched out and boring. We will get more money that way." I now have no respect for this franchise anymore.

reply

You can blame the split on the production company(Lionsgate) not on the creative
team. And the split does not make the HG series the same as Twilight. Nor does
it make the Mockingjay films boring. The Mockingjay films did significantly
switch gears which threw some people for a loop. But it was entirely intentional
and not bad writing or filmmaking. And it does no good to complain about it on
these boards. The fans get it. Just go back to watching the latest action and
special effects extravaganza.

reply

What do you mean? If it wasn't for the split, mockingjay would probably get really good reviews. And I have a right to be here because I'm an HG fan who just thought mockingjay was a complete misfire and that it ruined the franchise

reply

I realize that you liked the first two films and not the last two. That tells
me that you were attracted mostly by the action( the current euphemism for
violence). And you're not the only one to be disappointed that the Mockingjay
films had a different approach. But you seem to be so distracted by the fact
of the split that you forget that there ARE action scenes in the Mockingjay films.
You have a right to your opinion, but don't expect to convince real fans.

reply

No I liked the first two films because there wasn't much filler. Every scene was short and fast paced. The mockingjay movies had scenes that went on way too long and had an uneven pace with so much filler

reply

Yes, the Mockingjay films had a slower pace, but that's not necessarily
a bad thing. Nor is alternating faster and slower paced scenes. Give me
some examples of scenes that you thought went on too long. And what
do you consider filler? And what did you think of the last book?

reply

All the D12 scenes, D13 bombing, pesetas rescue, and basically every scene from mockingjay part 2 that's before the lizard mutts and after the parachute bombing

reply

Like I said. You're only interested in action. I find it hard to believe that
you were a fan of the books and yet want to cut out major portions of the story.
Do you really want to cut out everything after the parachute bombing?
Those scenes are slower paced, but crucial to the narrative.

reply

I don't want to cut them out completely I just think they need to be trimmed down a little.

reply

You say it's not about action, but the only scenes you don't want to trim
are the heavy action scenes. Maybe the others seemed long because you're
not interested in that emotional stuff.

reply

Of course it's because of action. These are action movies after all. It's not like the story is that interesting

reply

These are action movies after all

Wrong, but that's fault of the marketing.

reply

I didn't ask for the action scenes to be cut out because those are basically the only fast paced and intense scenes

reply

I find the story fascinating, probably because I can see this happening to the US if we continue to let the wealthy make all the important decisions. That it took 75 years for enough people to be willing to risk rebellion is mind boggling. How bad does the human condition have to get before we're willing to say "no more"? It is a chess game being played out with human beings. I definitely wouldn't want constant killing and bombing. Understanding how it got to this point and how the people unite to change the situation is what makes the film worth watching.

reply

Yeah I agree but the problem is execution. Also, the producers of these movies are pretty wealthy. And they made the decision to split the last book into two movies. (See where I'm going here?)

reply

Of course Lionsgate, the production company, was greedy. That is the blockbuster, franchise mentality today. The only remedy is for people to stop patronizing such films.

reply

The USSR lasted 70 years

When you have all the weapons, that can happen

Pretty much every scene with Katniss whining turned out too long. It is one thing to establish what her character is going through but another to repeat it over and over again. She was so strong in the past movies and now she is on the brink of breaking down every few minutes?

The movie is just not sure what story it wants to tell. It is heading nowhere and feels like they picked up the fragments which they could not fit into the last movie and just stuck them together. Getting Peeta back is not really the end of the movies arc, nor is the start of the rebellion. Splitting the movie would have been possible had they broken the story down in a more reasonable way. But it seems that they put all the juicy stuff into the last movie and kept this for a mere whining excercise, using "character development" as a fig leaf, when in fact there is no development at all.

The lack of smart writing does not help either. Everything is spelled out. The characters frequently act like morons. But a slow movie has to be a smart movie, as the little things matter more. It needs little ideas of people just being a bit wittier than the audience.

Even when it comes to the action, the movie is more interested in creating easily readable scenes than keeping up its reality. There might be military tactics which sound good when written, but they look pointless when filmed, like climbing up trees under fire or full frontal attacks without weapons. Could show desperation, but looks moronic when shown the way this movie does it. There is just this little bit extra missing which the previous movies had: the screenwriter wondering what he would do in that situation and allow the characters to adapt accordingly. Some clever self-made weapons. Some tactics utilizing their strengths against the oppressor and therefore playing out their culture against the brute force, like Katniss did it on a smaller level. But instead the winner is just who fights harder. There is no storytelling in the action.

reply

You have it all wrong. The series is about a totalitarian government that controls the citizens in the name of being able to keep power. Money doesn't come into the equation. North Korea is a more extreme version of what happens in the series, so learn about what goes on there and then you'll see what is really going on in this story.
