I have a really nutty idea. It's a crazy one, BUT it just might work:
Well, no: it won't work because you're unfortunately making the same mistake a lot of newcomers to these boards make by assuming that there's any form of discussion going on. The people posting about BR/BR2 (in fact, mainly just one
person using multiple accounts, although he's in reduced states now) are not here to discuss anything: they're just Trolls
. They're here to annoy and drown out normal discussion - that's it. They can't be reasoned with because they're not here to debate; they won't go away because that would spoil their fun; and while putting them on "ignore" will mean you
don't see them, it doesn't solve the problem because they just continue replying to themselves, clooging up the boards for other newcomers.
As an example, you'll frequently see threads where our old friend Mahmood (he's been posting for years using different acccounts as each one gets deleted) appears to be in a discussion with deleted posts. This is because he's replying to himself (either posting under the same account, or one of his sock-puppets), and then immediately deletes the previous message to try and cover his tracks - we've caught him at it several times.
On another thread, you asked WRT Mahmood "Do you think that he's some kind of evil supervillian who's trying to conquer the world by writing IMDB posts?" Now this was obviously intended as a joke, but in fact it's sort-of correct - at least at a very low level. What he (and the other trolls) is trying to do is drown out normal discussion, drive away "normal" posters and render the boards useless for anything other than trolling (and this applies to mass trolling on other boards too). As I said above, the "ignore" option doesn't work, and indeed I would argue that it just makes matters worse in that the regulars don't see how bad the problem is and therefore don't take any effective
action against it. As well as posting new threads, the Trolls keep bumping old threads (often using the "delete" trick described above) to keep them active. This is so that when IMDb do one of their regular board "culls" to remove old threads, its the "legitimate" threads that get culled while the troll threads remain...
"So I've got bullets, but no gun. That's quite Zen."
Thanks for the post. It did explain somethings like what all of those this message had been deleted posts are. I've been having so much fun typing about various subjects on these boards that it really didn't occur to me that there are people who take advantage of that. Again, thank you.
