Here's the main issue with The Hangover III

The first two installments (in addition to significantly funnier scripts) followed a particular formula that made them interesting: THE HANGOVER.

The first two movies both had the protagonists waking after the night of craziness, and spending the rest of the movie pricing together what debauchery occurred in order to solve problems that were created.

They were fun puzzles to watch get pieced back together.

The Hangover III involves NONE OF THIS. It was a significant disappointment when compared to the first two. It just wasn't fun, nor was it very funny. Too bad.

To be fair, it didn't really work as a trilogy.

Funny concept for the first one, but didn't need to be repeated.

The Hangover Part III was essentially a hangover. Instead of dealing with the consequences of the night before, they are dealing with the ones from the choices they made in the past two films.

That's an interesting take jonah. And that makes a lot of sense.

The part for me that deviated from the original concept and turned me off was when Chow blew those guys away at the end. Got really dark there....

No, I got so tired of Alan I wished someone shot him.
And Chow, what a boring character. Marshall was good but someone decided he dies.

You can only make so many "hangover" plots where they get drugged, don't remember anything the next day, and try to find their friend before it starts to get old and tiring. People complained about the second one because it pretty much had the exact same plot as the first, so they had to change it up a little bit for the third.

Or they could have just not made a third installment (or any sequel for that matter).
