How was Marion Cotillard's Polish accent? I am asking because she is a French and it sort of bothered me that they could not find a Polish actress to play the character of Ewa.

I'm not Polish so I can't say how accurate her accent is, but I've read mixed opinions from Polish people. They didn't want a Polish actress for this role to begin with, James Gray wrote this film especially for Marion and Joaquin Phoenix.

Her Polish was really remarkable, in fact it was so well that I had to check how long she had to train for this film... She has a slight french accent, but it is only noticeable in nuances, especially on the difficult endings ("Nie jestem niczym." she says "neetshym" a bit too soft, she has trouble with the "cz"...) Whoever taught her did a splendid job...
The Polish spoken by the other actors is not as good as hers (the Husband and Wife that offer her shelter for the night), but still okay...
