One of these days you're going to wake up in the cage with the rest of us monkeys.

Hmmm, a tough gig even for a seasoned director to get a film like this right. McCarthy finds some sympathy for the psychopathic hillbilly of his novel so the mood and tone will be very important.

Franco is a talented man, no doubt, but given that he has already baulked at Blood Meridian...

Filming today in Hillsboro WV.....sounds like a tough film to bring to the screen.

reply

Is that right!?

Any word on who's playing Lester?

reply

Scott Haze.

reply

Not familiar with his work but he looks the biz. Pretty tasty role for a relative unknown. I love the book, so he better do it justice

Child of God is my favorite of McCarthy's novels. I suppose I am biased because the book is set in my hometown of Sevierville. I thought Jackie Earl Haley would've been a perfect Lester Ballard.

reply

I'm really surprised this is getting made to be honest. It's possibly my least favourite McCarthy novel and just due to its content I wouldn't have expected anyone to try adapting it for the screen. I'd love to see someone give The Crossing a go; I think that could be a great film.

I wish I could say otherwise but unfortunately I haven't got very high hopes for this.

SPOILER ALERT:

LIke Blood Meridian, I think this book is unfilmable. To truly represent the violence of this novel would make this so disgusting no one would want to look at it. Violence like this needs to be imagined and never seen.

How can they pull off necrophillia???

I'm with previous poster, The Crossing would make a damn fine film. Let the Coens give it a crack.

Dictated, but not read.

and unfortunately star in it

*beep* THIS *beep* GUY

reply

He's hardly the star.

reply

I'm betting this film is going to be an insult to the novel. I won't even bother watching it if I see that it gets negative reviews on places like metacritic and rotten tomatoes.

reply

hopefully it's terrible and as i lay doing will be terrible and bukowski. Then he'll definitely stay away from Blood Meridian.

Anyway, I think Blood Meridian would be better as a mini series for hbo/showtime/etc.

reply

I'll be impressed when he (or anyone) adapts Blood Meridian.
