Tricia Helfer is NO Glenn Close

I LOVED her as Six on BSG, but the head of an extremely successful law firm? Not buying it....the complexity is absent.

I understand how scripted shows work....90 percent of the time characters, esp villains, are alluding to things that have not yet been written. Therefore, they have to fill in the gaps themselves. Glenn Close does this brilliantly on Damages.....Tricia Helfer fails miserably at this task. I do not believe for One Second, during her scenes, that she knows what she's talking about.....she is just reading the lines as "evil"

reply

was she supposed to be trying to be Glenn Close? Or can no one ever have that type of role besides her?

reply

No....i do not endorse her copying someone else; however, I was comparing the depth of each role......Close is a full fledged character.....Helfer is extremely flat...in my humble opinion

reply

Shes not flat. Skinny yes but she has curves.quire beautiful

reply

Touche! Though not exactly where i was going with the post...haha

reply

Um ya you are right. She is much much taller.

"You think it's cause we're so awesome? I think it's cause we're so awesome."

reply

close may play the role with a bit more depth, but clearly helfer is easier on the eye, BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS. i'll give her some more time in this role before i'll judge her acting or whether she was well cast, precisely because i loved her as Six, a role in which i thought she displayed serious talent.

reply

she certainly did display depth as Six...she was excellent. Yes, she's gorgeous, but I cannot factor that into her performance.

Unfortunately, she won't have much growing time...she just got cancelled.

reply

EH! </wrong answer sound effect> the show may or may not have been 'effectively' cancelled; that remains to be seen. but even if so, she'll have plenty of growing room. we're only on episode 6 and they've completed and will air 22 episodes, irregardless of the ratings. this has already been announced.

reply

1. Irregardless is not a word

2. even if they have already fillmed all 22 episodes, that is no gaurentee they will be aired, networks fail to air finshed episodes all the time if they can get better numbers with a different show - hell some unaried episodes were replaced with reruns.

Its about selling ads, and if reruns of a show off the air five yr ago gets better ratings the this show that is what will happen

may i suggest you try onelook before determining what is or is not a word, as though you personally edited the OED? http://www.onelook.com/?w=irregardless&ls=a

another word you'll find easily online is ignoranus. another: neologism! so much to learn and so little time! </runs off checking the pocket watch>

reply

irregardless is not a correct word, and is only considered a "word" because too many people have used it, but it's considered a incorrectly used word. Try defining it, it's a double negative: ir-regard-less, which is defined as: without lack of regard, or basically: with regard. The word he was trying to say was regardless, without regard.

reply

I hear what you're saying and irregardless I will continue to use it because I like to bother people who live with their panties in a wad. BTY... When I type irre with my android tablet I get irregardless as an option for selected word possibilities. You might not accept it's usage but the rest of the world is.

and is only considered a "word" because too many people have used it
As it is with all words as they come to exist. Once we were all cavemen and there was no words. Words came about for us to be able to understand one another. Once that is done they have served their intentions. Everyone knows what is meant by someone when they say irregardless.

reply

and if you actually clicked on the links provided on the site you mentioned it would tell you the same thing, the word is not only very informal as it means the opposite of what is intended, but is also considered wrong.

reply

i don't refute your logic, however, of course i am familiar with the definition. why else would i suggest you acquaint yourself with onelook or the OED? i also suggested you look up 'neologism' - perhaps you're unfamiliar with the concept? any student of linguistics can tell you that language changes, over time, with usage, and this is a significant influencing factor on changes/additions to versions of respected dictionaries and language institutes worldwide.

educate yourself further, if you choose - but in my view, pedants who aren't linguists generally succeed only in mocking themselves.

No kidding

Former model vs Oscar nominee with a lifetime of acting experience

It's not even a contest.

Not that Tricia Hilfer is bad, but Glenn Close is phenomenal.

reply

^^^ Well said. Tricia is gorgeous and a good actress. Glenn Close is a top flight, world class actress of screen and stage. Kinda like comparing a distance runner to a sprinter.

reply

Glenn Close looks more "weathered" and would have made the character more believable. Tricia looks like she's just out of law school and hard to imagine she is in such a top job.
