Patrick Stewart Breakdown

I watched The Captains when it was first released and then again today.

From the first time I watched it, I vividly remember a scene where Patrick Stewart pretty much breaks down crying over his regret over his failed marriages. I also remember coming to this message board and reading a comment that Shatner was trying to evoke a similar reaction from Mulgrew on her reflection on not spending enough time with her family.

On rewatching the documentary today on Netflix, I did not see the scene where Patrick Stewart breaks down.

Has the Netflix version been edited?

reply

Com'n, captains are not supposed to cry :)

reply

I just saw it, and it's there.

reply

At what point in the movie?

Was this the Netflix version? If so, what country are you using Netflix in? (Different countries may have different copies - I watched it on US Netflix).

reply

That scene is very moving, but I think you have imagined him crying because it was so powerful. He speaks slowly, and with obvious feeling, as though he is trying not to cry on camera--and it almost seems like he is going to lose it. But he never does.

reply

He's a dramatic actor .. ie a drama queen.
God I hated the Picard character, and the whole TNG.
There were only one or two bearable episodes.
In the new documentary that Shatner did that focuses on Roddenberry
he goes into the reasons why ST:TOS was not able to be replicated.
It's actually pretty good. Shatner is kind of a dweeb, but he can
get to the heart of an issue and speak intelligently if he wants to.

It's in the middle of the movie. Patrick Stewart speaks very slowly and emotionally, saying that his 2 regrets in life are his failed marriages. It's sad. But he's not bawling or anything.

reply

Seriously, Bruce? You hated TNG?

Shaka, when the walls fell.

reply

To me TNG and Captain Picard is the very best Star Trek has to offer.
