naukadoubi -better to add original bengali

hi,

it may be better if IMDB add original Bengali title here, than the dubbed Hindi name.
and for viewers, I would recommend the original Bengali version rather than dubbed Hindi. The film’s ethnic flavour will lose if we change the language, and as far as the theme is concerned it is fully set on the Bengali cultural settings of 1920's and the film will become soulless if we change the language.

Hey, I just watched the entire Hindi version without subtitles (I don't even speak the language). I thought it was really fascinating and I was riveted by the lovely acting. There were times when I wondered what the plot was but the acting was just so good to watch. After looking at the reviews I realize now why the voices were slightly awkward/out of sync. The version I watched was still a great film but do you or anyone else know where to obtain a genuine Bengali-voice version of this film?

I ordered the original Bengali version thru the Indian company Induna.com (the shipping cost more than the DVD, but still came to about $20 - not bad!) HOWEVER, the subtitles are in yellow and extremely hard (and sometimes impossible)to read ... so I then actually got the Hindi version also thru Amazon - the subtitles are much easier to read, but there are a few minor trims to the film (126 vs. 121 minutes) I didn't find the dubbing ALL that distracting, since I don't speak either Hindi nor Bengali and have to rely on the subtitles for either. Anyway, it is really a beautifully made film and made me seek out both Tagore's original writings and Ghosh's film of his 'Chokher Bali', which is equally enthralling. Hope this helps...

Oh my goodness thanks so much for this! I hadn't realized that someone replied to this until I actually tried google-ing 'Noukadubi'/'Naukadoubi' DVD again just now! Were the subtitles 'optional' on the DVD? Wikipedia says that the Hindi version might have been edited down by 30 minutes - is there any truth in that? Reading your comment this it sounds like it's only 5 minutes.

Coincidentally I bought 'Chokher Bali' as an ex-rental DVD for NZ$3 a few weeks ago not knowing it's relation to 'Naukadoubi'. 'Chokher Bali' was beautiful and I instantly thought of 'Naukadoubi' because they shared a couple of the same characters.
