All due respect to Terrence Malick...but...

I'm not sure if this is going to work. He seemingly is taking a portion of what was a basic art-house film...and making that into a documentary? Who is his audience? Admittedly, I'll see it, and will probably hail it as terrific...thought Tree of Life was one of the best films ever...but it's such a niche. Does he realize that he's not going to make a morsel on this?

Yes, he realizes that. It's not about making money, it's about creating art. By the way, he's obviously paid to write and direct the film, so he's making money no matter what. Whether the investors get their money back, who knows. I think it'll barely make its money back. It'll be a mind blowing thing to see in the IMAX. Most who loved Tree of Life will go and that'll be close to enough to get its money back. Tree of Life cost 32mil and made 54mil worldwide. This film didn't cost nearly that much.

I think we should all be thankful that he doesn't care about making money. If people will keep giving him money to make his art, so be it. And even my friends who don't normally like his films loved the birth of the universe scene in Tree of Life. hell, even my mom loved that scene.

Sure, of course, it was grand...but why do it again?

You could argue why people continue to make rom coms, or horror films with the same cliches throughout them, or why they continue to remake films over and over.

I Sympathise with Lars Von Trier.

Watch Samsara or Baraka and you'll get an idea of what he wants to do with this film.

I actually think it's kinda perfect since most people (not all) commented after watching the Tree of Life that he should make a nature documentary.

Raging Bull = Best movie
