Her family... really illogical... (mild spoilers)

You are trapped in a building filled with psychopaths, hit-men, corrupt police officers, some kind of private SWAT army and a number of desperate prostitutes who are after you because there is a bounty on your head, all controlled by a ruthless and very powerful Japanese crime lord... and what does she do?... invites her mother and 5 yrs old daughter over. Figure out another way to get the money to them... don't invite them into the lions den.

Its a fun film, but really far fetched and silly.

I guess you missed the in-movie so-called 'Buddhist proverb' justifying this plan: "A sanctuary sometimes resides in the eye of the storm".

And the follow-up, "Of course it's dangerous here but it's dangerous everywhere".

Love that good old movie logic!

And of course all of the above justified the subsequent kooky, feel good, cleaning house to Christmas music scene.

Well... that scene does in a way justify the silliness of the entire scenario. It was the funniest part of the film.

^To each their own(I guess) because that part took me out of the movie. If there was any character in the film that made me MAD......it was the Mother. I get it. I get that she wants to talk to her daughter and have that inevitable lecture about how messed up Everly's life is, BUT there's a TIME and a PLACE for that. Everly is telling here over and over and OVER again: "Mom, NO. We DON'T have time to talk. Just take the money and my daughter and RUN!." But NO. She had to waste time and give that LAST speech that she could've easily told Everly over the phone.

I was about to turn this hot mess off when the mother pulled her in the bathroom

Yeah, I agree with the OP, the movie was good for what it was. But why did she even want to give them the money? All she managed to do was get the mother killed. Everly and Maisey are not safe now that the big guy is dead, so her plan just backfired. She should have just hot tailed outta there, met up with her family later. But, whatever, it was a good violent action flick.

Just saw this film---it was way too gruesome, and I didn't look at the gory parts, but this was jam=packed full of action, and it was cool to see Salma Hayek play a balls-out, kick-a** semi-anti-heroine for a change. It was good for what it was, and I was never bored, not even once. Love seeing films about strong and tough women who rise to the challenge and handle their business when the chips are down.

Also, she had no way of getting out of that building---every time she tried to get the hell out, she was pretty much trapped into staying there. So getting the family there was really just was basically a last resort type of sitiuation, period.

totally agree, her plan made no sense...just tell them to leave town, her mothers death was on her.

still good action flick.
