I do not understand why people are surpriseed this show got cancelled ).

With the death of Michael Clarke Duncan, It would probably end up failing anyway. I can only think of three spin off series which have ever been successful on TV. La and order and it's spin offs, Archie bunkers place even though did evuantlly get cancled and Fraiser. Seems like all other spin off series get cancelled after 1 or and 1/2 half seasons.

reply

There are lots of spinoffs besides Frasier, and Law & Orders that lasted more than a season and a half.

Facts of Life, Laverne & Shirley, The Jeffersons, Maude, Good Times (a spinoff of a spinoff!), CSI Miami/NY, Stargate Atlantis, Star Trek DS9/Voyager, etc all spinoffs with good runs, I'm sure I'm forgetting several more.

This is nothing close to the boring Bones.

I agree... Bones is almost unwatchable now. The chemistry is gone.... Time to pull the plug..

reply

WhatMyNameIs2009 has obviously been watching a different version of The Finder as I found it very enjoyable even more enjoyable than a lot of Bones episodes.

reply

Angel (Buffy spin off) made it to 5 seasons.

I am not surprised it was canceled. However I just finished watching the season finale, and thought it just really started getting juicy. And they end it on a cliffhanger! A few of the episodes were a little lackluster. But the show had tons of heart, and had a quirkiness that I liked about it. I think there was enough originality to it that it could have survived Duncan's passing. Provided they didn't pull some asinine stunt like having a wealthy tech entrepreneur buying the Bar, but letting the previous owners deadbeat brother live there.... oh wait...
anyway, I think there could have been a way to keep the series going. It goes without saying that Duncan's presence made a world of difference to that cast. It was one of the most endearing qualities of the show for sure. But I think the show had enough going for it.

As I said I'm not surprised by the cancellation since in the past 10 years or so, anything I seem to get into during it's first season is doomed to only one season; while formulaic, predictable mindnumbing shows like Mike and Molly are praised. This is why I've given up on Network TV almost entirely. Glad at least Netflix is bringing these types of shows to their streaming service.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

That's because it wasn't PLANNED to end there. This was a season finale, but wasn't supposed to end the show.

If you notice, most of the shows have a small break between season, usually about a month or two. This would've put the new season as starting around the time Michael Duncan Clarke had a heart attack on July 13, 2012, after which he was hospitalized for a month and a half. This resulted in him passing away on September 3, 2012 at age 54.

Obviously, NO ONE could replace Michael as Leo Knox (or anything else, for that matter). Usually when it's known beforehand that an actor will be leaving a show, they can plan ahead for a character write-out, whether it be the character leaving or dying, and they can write in a replacement or reorganize the show's remaining characters to fill the void.
The death of a lead actor is a show killer. They couldn't re-write or reorganize because there would be no way to explain Knox's sudden exit from the story.

It was a great show while it lasted; VERY amusing. My daughter and I had just watched the whole season as a "fill-in" between episodes of "Bones" (I don't subscribe to cable/satellite, so we watch everything on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon). I was a big fan of Clarke's work. He was a great actor; very flexible in roles and a LOT of talent. He was very surprising in his portrayal of some roles. He will be missed very much.

I think if they had written MCD's death into the show it could have worked. They could have done an extended break, like they did on Bones for Emily's maternity leave, and returned with his death written into the show. A whole slue of possibilities could have arisen out of his tragic death. It would have been like a poultice for the fans of the show and him, as well has his character's pseudo-family. Possible scenarios could have been Willa finds out and comes back for his funeral and to face her "family" and probation officer, possibly leaving the gypsy life behind to honor Leo, Walter is freed and finds the evidence needed to make the case against the CEO that killed Leo's family thereby finding Leo justice/peace, Isabel and "Marshall Lady" have conflict over Walter and her career, as was alluded to in the finale.

I know this was an old post, but I just finished watching the show and came here :)

Great story line for season 2!

reply

yeah
wish netflix picked it up. But it's been 4 years now. And bringing back the cast (and crew) after such long time might be near impossible. Geoff is probably busy elsewhere. Marcedes Mason is not doing much on Fear the Walking dead now. Don't know about maddie.

reply

I think the reason it was cancelled had something to do with the Willa character. Who wants to watch an annoying little brat week after week that is always complaining about something and has zero redeeming qualities? She isn't even cute, just a fat-assed bleach blonde with attitude. It's no wonder the viewership dropped by 50% during the second half of the season.

Wow... That was vicious and oddly targeted..even for the inter webs.

Finder isn't a spin off of bones. Spin off entailed that someone from Bones joins finder. It didn't happen. Finder team on bones only had finder and Leo the bar girl is different. Finder show cross over only had bug guy for one eps. Not a spin off they just exist in the same world.

Buffy and Angel
Stargate Sg1 Stargate Atlantis Stargate universe. Atlantis carried over weir and Jackson and carter were in the first plus of course the Stargate and the ancients. Might be racist but Ray might have been in Atlantis and Stargate Sg1.

Greys anatomy and practice with judging Amy girl
Practice and Danny crane
Ally mcbeal there was something there a cross over like finder and bones.
Yugioh series, Dragon ball and dragon ball z and Gt
Scooby doo and his shows.
Cleave land show and family
With all the crap that they let on the air they ended finder this way. Leo is good and mission impossible is only good because of him, but to cancel finder when it's open for a lot more and not saying psych is bad but it's mentalist with more comedy. Writers are killing tv, too much reality tv and when someone has to write something they all follow the same thing... Freaky Friday, ground hogs day, trip to the future or past, they end the show on a cliff hanger and its okay. Elijah didn't screw up and doom Stargate universe he didn't. Ending a show with cliff hangers is wrong and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

A spin-off doesn't require a common character.
And I LOVED The Finder.
I apparently don't have very good taste because if I like it....it'll get cancelled.

reply

I wouldn't know your taste because it got cancelled because it was a fun show and the greatest TV show ever made got cancelled after one season on Fox as well.

All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.

Talking about Firefly?

reply

Firefly was tired, shows focusing on a ship crew are ridiculously tired. This was new, and fun.

Dr. Sweets was in an episode as well, so 2 crossover Finder episodes...

reply

Mork & Mindy and Laverne & Shirley didn't have any of the Happy Days crew in their shows. Hate to tell you they are still classified as spin-offs. Not my classification system, I'm just passing it on.

I don't know what the heck you are even talking about after your first paragraph. Adderall

That's not entirely true. NCIS was a spinoff of the tv show JAG and NCIS has already lasted longer then JAG. Also NCIS LA was a spinoff of NCIS and I think its been on for 4 years.
