lol @ all the hate...

It's actually a funny show.

I tend to agree with the similarity to Whitney.. but I also like that show as well.

I don't see what everyone's prob is with the jokes.. they are just corny "guy" humor.

I was laughing my ass off at the 3-way episode..

I love it.

exactly. it's a corny show with cheap laughs, but why is that such a bad thing?

I like the show and I will continue to watch it. It's not doing terribly in the ratings (for a TBS show) and the actors are solid from a comedic standpoint. The writing could improve a bit...

Does every TV show have to be a thinker or written by comedic geniuses? I like this one (and Whitney and Two Broke Girls) because it's fun to watch. It's just entertainment, people. If it bothers you that much you can always change the channel. At least it's not another singing or dancing show. Or a dating show. Or an island show. Or a singers dating secret millionaire dancers with orange faces on an island show.

I can see your point... but it takes so much effort to hate something. I just found it kind of odd that there is so much of it here.

Sigh...the overuse of the word hate. It's called having an opinion, I realize America is pretty much brain dead these days, but people are still allowed to think and have different views.

If you like it, good for you. I don't find it funny and from the looks of this board neither do a lot of other people.

I came on here after watching about 20 minutes of it, not laughing once, to see what others thought.

I like Breckin Meyer and always found him funny. And Masterson was good in the 70s show, not so much in this.

that's because it's a lousy show!

It would take more effort for me to like this show than it does to hate it.

reply

Why would you assume that people don't get it just because they disagree? This is a discussion board, right? I'm pretty sure we can still discuss our opinions just like you can discuss yours.

reply

[deleted]

I believe the problem is exactly that.

People can come on and say what they think, but the hate goes both ways and then if someone disagrees with an opinion the banter goes from "I love"/"I hate" to "..any one who loves it is brain dead" and "anyone who hates it is a moron"...etc

It is unfortunately the way of forums and IMDB has quite a lot who feel that their opinion is the only one that matters, and anyone who disagrees is scum.

and those that just say "love it " or "hate it" without giving any kind of reasoning. It's supposed to be a discussion board..so discuss. It's just boring otherwise.

and on top of that you get the trolls of which IMDB also has a lot.

It's a shame that people cannot express opinions on a subject without resorting to childish personnel comments. Personally I usually view those kinds of comments as "I have nothing intelligent to say, so I'll resort to the lowest common denominator i.e. act like a grunt and throw insults."

On subject, I like the show. I think it's funny, no need to think too much humor. A nice easy way to waste 1/2 hour in the evening. The characters are as always unbelievable, (All fit , yet they spend half their life in a cafe eating terrible food!). but i like it.

reply

The show got a ton of 1's just because of the promos.
It had like a 3.0 before it came out.
The promos sucked, but people should at least give the show a chance.

When you have a show that is just starting out you need to focus on the content of the jokes and the type of characters being portrayed.

The show is really unique in that it presents the dating world form the perspective of the young man. We've gotten enough Sex and the City style shows, it is time for a guy's dating sitcom and i think Men at Work is showing tons of potential.

There’s no one on IMDB I care enough for to use spell check- suck it grammar Nazis

Interestingly enough, the whole Devil's Threesome and "never make eye contact during a Devil's Threesome" was taken straight out the Bro Code from How I Met Your Mother.

BUT that was not nearly as egregious as last night's episode, whic was almost ENTIRELY stolen from HIMYM espide " How I Met Everyone Else" withe Crazy/Hot Scale (Paradigm).

I actually couldn't believe last night when they were essentially ripping off Barney Stinson verbatim. Then, TBS has the nerve to air a little promo explaining the "crazy/hot paradigm" as if it was their own.

IMHO, it was felonious plagiarism. I know that pretty much every single movie/tv show copies a bit from time to time. But this was flat out ridiculous.

Just gotta keep on livin.. L-i-v-i-n

reply

I can't stand HIMYM I just can't sit though it.

This show however delivers it well ... and is incredibly funny.

I actually don't mind if they keep ripping off other shows and produce solid humor out of it.

Actually HIMYM did an epic job with this...much much better than Men at Work. I am a casual I'll watch it On-Demand fan of Men at Work but I too was stunned with how blantantly they ripped off HIMYM, it actually made me uncomfortable for the show haha.

And something Joey and Chandler has negotiated a decade earlier on Friends. Just sayin'

reply

I have only watched one episode (doubt I'll watch more) and it was precisely that one. My jaw dropped when they started to talk about the crazy/hot scale. I don't think they actually used the word "scale" but it was such a blatant rip off that I felt outraged, and I'm not even that big of a HIMYM fan.

And on some small level, I think you owe me something for deceiving me so exquisitely.

reply

I love HIMYM, but I don't think they invented the "no eye contact" rule in the devil's three-way or the crazy/hot scale, because I remember "learning" these things as a kid in school. But they probably were the first show to explore and elaborate on it. Also when you consider Men at Work is about the lives of men and their point of view on things, you have to expect some overlapping with things Barney Stinson might say and talk about.

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.

I think it's HILARIOUS!! And I'm a woman; however, my husband just didn't get it. I didn't feel like it was one of those shows where the joke is "thrown out" and we 'wait' for it to 'land', like on Two Broke Girls. (I still can't believe that is such a hit, but probably more because of the network it's on and time slot.) As a matter a fact, I went on IMDB looking to see what episode I had missed from last week, which I NEVER do with a comedy.
I also love Whitney. I think people that don't like Whitney, don't like dry humor.

reply

It isn't that I hate the show, its just that it's terrible.

"Why is it our job to save everyone? Haven't we done enough?"

reply

I enjoyed it. The last episode of season one was the best, very funny.

Glad it has been renewed for a second season, it is about time a good comedy like this has been renewed. They canned so many good shows this year and yet crap like "Girls" scored another season. Dunno what the networks are thinking sometimes!

Iam picky about what shows i watch, being from the UK ,iam not famaliar with some other shows mentioned but bottom line this show is quite enjoyable and genuily funny in parts, one of the better comedies in the last couple of years:]

reply

I thought the pilot was pretty bad, but I was dragged into watching the 2nd episode, and thought it was pretty decent. Since then, I've watched the rest of the show.

reply

So if we could step back a sec and laugh at the dynamic of the devil's threeway situation

-It was discussed in verbose amount son an Ep of Friends 15 years ago.
-Fans of HIMYM are angry because this show "ripped off" the discussion they had about it on their show (which was relatively identical to the Friends instance)
-The guy in charge of this show (which has ripped off the ripoff, as per popular opinion) has publicly spoken about this situation actually happening in his own life.

So in short, this show told a story from the creator's real life which ripped off a show who ripped off an older show.
