'The Big Bang Theory' for Dopes

Why? What dip *beep* would watch this? This is soooo originial!

reply

Here is a suggestion maybe you should watch the show before you comment on it. The show is nothing like the big bang theory, but you wouldn't know that because you have not watched it.

reply

I've watched it. It TRIED to rip BBT off but was too lame to touch it in these particular areas: unlike BBT, this show is not smart; is not even plausible; is not funny; is not good.

Men at Work needs a lot of just that.

reply

To be fair the first TBBT episodes weren't anything great either.

And the only resemblance is, it's four guys.

It's not a great show, sure, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be (the promos were worse than the actual show).

reply

"(the promos were worse than the actual show)."

I didn't have the pleasure of seeing the promos but I simply do not believe you based on the fact that I don't think there could be anything worse than the show, unless for the promo of it they just had actual 30 sec clips of paint drying would be the only thing I could imagine to be worse than this.

Self and the missus turned off the first episode about half way through, didn't turn over to watch something else, just turned it off and even with our massive 42inch screen showing nothing but black and the odd bit of dust on it.... it was still better than it being sullied with this rubbish.

Awful awful show.

reply

I actually watched paint dry once. It definitely wasn't that great, but luckily I was in a crowded theater and yelling "Fire!" livened things up a bit.

I could care less, but I don’t care enough to bother.

reply

hehe, should get you writing for this show, thinking about it tho, if I was in control of the writing staff of this rubbish I'd be yelling fire a fair bit too :D til I had an empty room to start off again with.

The BBT is not a smart show either. Just because the characters in the show are "intelligent" people (being that they're physicists and scientists) whom discuss "intelligent" topics (like string theory), it doesn't equate to intelligent comedy or writing. The "humor" in the BBT is just as contrived as any other broad situational comedy.

Seinfeld is an example of an intelligent sitcom. Yes, the storylines revolved around trivial details of everyday life. It was "a show about nothing" afterall. But the subtext of each episode was an insightful commentary of the influence of social norms on human behavior (at least they were before the last few seasons). More accurately, it wasn't "a show about nothing", but "a show about social norms".

Here's an article from the website "Psychology Today" entitled "The Science of Small Talk: The science of social behavior, one interaction at a time (The Science of Seinfeld: Top 7 Life Lessons [7 lessons about everything from the show about nothing]." Long title/subtitle, I know.

http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/science-small-talk/201112/the-scie nce-seinfeld-top-7-life-lessons

For example: Jerry ponders why we continue to socialize with friends that we no longer care to socialize with. Why do we continue to tolerate "friends" we hate and keep putting ourselves in uncomfortable situations? Just so we don't hurt their feelings? We want nothing to do with these people!

Here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x3knxMBHco

Or this clip that explores why we seek approval from, again, others that we don't care for (which is why social media like Facebook is so popular):

Did you actually watch either show though? Men at Work isn't remotely similar to The Big Bang Theory.

Don't pretend you've watched something when you haven't.

I did, *beep* - on demand and it sucked. Here's a suggestion for you, go *beep* yourself, idiot.

reply

Your original post was before the show even aired and that is what I was commenting on. That is also your opinion.

reply

lol you like big bang theory. I can't take anything you say serious in regards to what good comedy is. I know a lot of people that like TBBT and I don't judge them but they also don't go on to IMDB to trash another show claiming superiority. You're hilarious

reply

I always thought The Big Bang Theory was The Big Bang Theory for dopes.

reply

Me too, A Dance with Charles.

"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."

reply

This is false because it implies that The Big Bang Theory isn't the steaming pile of *beep* that it is. Somehow this show looks even worse.

reply

This show was nothing like TBBT... at all. Like, there was literally zero resemblance by any stretch of the imagination.
