Granville Island is NOT in Seattle ... HaHa

I getting the biggest kick when I am watching a movie and a scene takes place somewhere I have been and I recognize it. The first time this happened was when I watched the movie The Proposal which takes place in Alaska ... but I recognized Bearskin Neck in Rockport, MA.

Then I recognized Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden in the movie The Big Year (they were trying to pass it off as really being China, but they can't fool me! LOL!)

It has now become somewhat of a game. It's just fun.

So today I was watching Kiss at Pine Lake. I had no idea it takes place in Seattle. It is quite ironic because I had just come back from Seattle 2 nights ago. I really enjoyed the opening scenes of Seattle ... but 5 mins into the movie and our lead is in Vancouver, BC. Specifically she is at Go Fish on Granville Island. I recognized it immediately - and I should. I have spent A LOT of time there. (In case anyone wants to visit that area there is a wonderful B&B called Granville Island B&B. I highly recommend it - tell David that Rachel sent you!) But to leave no doubt that it is one of my favorite places to eat in Vancouver, someone is actually wearing a Go Fish apron. Several other scenes take place there on Fisherman's Wharf (Granville Island) You can see several shots of the Granville Street Bridge!

I was quite amused! :-)

Wow, you're gonna really hate it when you find out the truth about the Wizard of Oz.

Did you even read what I wrote? ... I was at least attempting to be funny (not sure what you were doing ;-) )

I said it was fun for me to watch a movie and recognize a location that the film is shot in and which is not necessarily where it was supposed to be.

So sue me for wanting to share an observation. :-)

boisenewbie - I enjoyed your post. I was also fascinated to recognise some familiar places in this movie. Unfortunately, you have discovered some of the many losers on this site these days, who seem to want to create an argument or dismiss your views. Just ignore them.

Sorry, but I agree with Quasi-Mofo. Nit-picking like this does nothing for one's enjoyment of a movie. I know a few people who watch movies for geographical errors, anachronisms, and other mistakes. They get some kind of perverse pleasure out of this, but invariably are unable to either enjoy a movie, or understand what is going on, since they are paying more attention to irrelevancies than to the movies themselves.

I was watching John Carpenter's "Ghosts of Mars" the other night and could tell they weren't really on Mars at all!! LOL!!! It was quite amusing!

What we have here is failure to communicate!

Rachel, you have a neat movie-hobby.
I haven't travelled much so i enjoy noticing the goofs. The first time i saw one i was a youngster and of course there was no pausing tv then. I had to wait forever for it to air again to carefully prove to myself i had really seen what i thought. And i DID! lol
I'm going to try your lil game too.

I agree, it is fun when you recognize places you've been or know where they are. It can be annoying too. I live in Portland, OR and get frustrated when something says it is filmed here and the majority of footage is filmed in Vancouver, BC. Not that I have anything against BC or anything but if it is based here, film it here. Thanks for sharing.

Where in Oregon was this? Just curious.

Evans Lake Camp near Vancouver,BC is the site of the camp. I've been there many times.

I love seeing (and "exposing!) familiar scenery in movies and tv. Like Northern Exposure (tv) was supposedly Alaska but was filmed in Roslyn WA. Was especially fun seeing my husband's neighbors as incidental "extras" in Benny & Joon (filmed in Spokane, where we grew up). Fun!

I'm always amused when I see filming location listed as Vancouver when quite clearly the location is Squamish, BC. From the looming Stawamus Chief, to the drive to Evans Lake, (which also is only near Vancouver if you consider a two hour drive close proximity)... We rarely get billing, but we are the stand in for so many places. The town has so many landmarks though, its quite easily recognized.

I get what you mean. It's just a fun observation. Sometimes the scenery is so beautiful that I want to know where it is, so I can visit one day. I'm surprised at how much is filmed in Canada. It's much cheaper to film in Canada than the US.
Just ignore the trolls. It was a good post.
