Mix-up with the cellphones.

Can anyone explain the mix-up with the mobile phones? I got so confused about them. Did anybody get it?

What I don't understand most is why there a phone taken from the body of a person who didn't have anything to do with the plot in the end - Diego was his name, if I recall it right.

Jaime put the cell phone next to the body of Diego Aguilar, and he switched the name plate with the one that says Javier Alonso. javier was the private detective hired to spy on Alex. This was all a setup to make Alex paranoid and confess to the murder.

But in the end, it was said that the detective was abroad working on another case. So, how could it be his one of the bodies in the morgue?

reply

Just like I already wrote, private detective's name is Javier Alonso, the body in the morgue was the body of Diego Aguilar, some other person. At the beginning Jaime just changed the name tag to confuse Alex. The private eye was never in the morgue, there was only a plate with his name written on it.

reply

Ah, OK. But why did he have that all-important mobile phone? It is the mix-up with the phones which I can't do head or tails of it.

reply

That cell phone had only one contact, his wife's phone. When he called her phone it turned out that the phone was in the restaurant. It was another setup to made him remember the restaurant scene and the private detective. Just finding the phone, made Alex more paranoid and believing that his wife may be alive and seeking revenge.
Another reason was to stay in touch with Carla, so she can lure him to confess to the murder.

it all makes sense to me but what i didnt understand is who the guy in the restaurant was...was he the same guy whose dead body was in the morgue or two different people...the body int he morgue was random perhaps...but then it doesnt explain who the man in the restaurant was and why was the wife secretive about his identity ....and though for me the big twist works because i could have never imagined ..yes i knew it had something to do with carla ...the detective's backs tory i though it could connect but not to the twist ....so the twist took me by surprise thats made me stand up but immediately made me question two things ....
one of the things has already been pointed out ...why would a girl sleep with the man she despises so much and pretend to be in love for a long time convinced she would be able to manipulate him and that too with her father a partner in the 'act'. couldnt there be better ways to avenge??
second , to really get to a situation where the husband wants to plot the wife's murder...the wife needed to be manipulated too ....the wife needed to be 'made to' act the way she acted through out ...they needed to know minor details like the wife seeing him code in the date in the lab to make him paranoid later ...or to make him think of the restaurant scene to make him paranoid later..

all of these thoughts overall make the steam go off the twist.

I agree to some extent, but arguably they did know all of that because he was so close to Carla and telling her everything, especially everything about his wife suspecting their affair. The film is no doubt not without flaws, but what a fun ride, eh?!

"oh mummy, oh daddy - lets all play Kabadi!"
