Something about the twist

First of all I'd like to say that I really enjoyed this film and of course the twist in the end. But I was disappointed up to a point about the end. So Eva and her father came up with such a brilliant plan to trap Alex and Mayka, she even prostituted with her mother's murderer for what? Just to kill them? I'm not a proffesional assassin but I'm pretty sure there would be way easier methods to kill them and still not get caught! Since the had all that evidence against Alex they should let him live and suffer in prison for the rest of his life. Really dissapointed about that part!

The detective said that they needed to confirm that Alex and Mayka were the killers, so that's why Eva aproached Alex in the first place. When in bed, Alex confessed to Eva, giving her father the nod to put his plan in motion

reply

The prostitution wasn't my point my friend!

reply

Eva didnt knew Alex was the one that killed her mother. She met him and liked him, then her father told her all the truth. She didnt knew at first.

reply

No her father says that she tried to find Alex and when she did he just recognized him because he had seen him clearly that night.

reply

No, Eva remembered the license plate number from that night years later, then they looked it up and found out who it was and then put a plan in motion to go after him. The father clearly confesses all of this.

reply

How is that prostitution? It was manipulative but not quite prostitution. She wasn't sure that Alex was responsible for her mother's death so she wanted to get close to him to get the truth. My impression was that her feelings for him were not entirely falsified. The line between love and hate can be self-deceivingly thin. In a strange way, getting close to him also allowed her to be closer to her mother. Ultimately, after he confessed to her in bed, she agreed to join her father in his quest for revenge but her decision was not without pain. We saw just how emotionally/psychologically devastating this whole process has been for her in that scene where she's sobbing outside in the rain.

Also, it would've been extremely difficult to prove that Alex was driving the car that crashed into theirs. Mayka was extremely wealthy and could afford the best defense attorneys. They would've ripped to shreds Carla/Eva's memory of the car license plate -- they would've argued that a child's memory cannot be reliable, especially after so many years. The whole trial process would take many more years, open up old wounds and probably financially ruin the detective & his daughter. Taking the matter into his own hands allowed he and his daughter to achieve closure and regain a sense of justice much sooner. I'm not condoning their actions, just saying that I can see the reasoning behind their decisions.

She needed him to confess. Killing someone is not that easy but since he's detective I think they could've killed them easily but the way they did was much easier and have no risk.

Father, daughter wanted death (for Alex & Mayka) for death (of Ruth). So first thing was to find them and they did it. Next to make them go against each other and they it as well. Like you said...

there would be way easier methods to kill them and still not get caught!
they just proceeded the play the direction it was going after the initiation and they had do it if the death is what they wanted.

Since the had all that evidence against Alex they should let him live and suffer in prison for the rest of his life.

And finally, letting the Alex be alive is a disaster especially not after Jaime told his plans, coz Alex had one perfect shot to prove Carla and Jaime are father-daughter. And to convince the court it was a revenge act.

But drunk and drive care would have been registered for the death of Ruth. That is another case.

antwnisa I agree with you... the movie is brilliant but it's not very realistic.. the whole plan that the detective and his daughter made had too many assumptions and low odds of success.. for example, what if Alex had decided to divorce Mayka and not planned to kill her, what if he hadn't told Eva of the accident in the past, what if he didn't confess before the cops, etc.. it was not a fool proof plan and could have failed at any point.. It would probably have been better from their point of view to seek revenge by planning a regular murder/hiring a contract killer or something... anyway, it's a movie after all and some people are actually this twisted in real life too..

There's a few things that are hard to explain in the movie. For instance, these two:
How could Alex, in theory, steal the body and bury it in the woods in so little time before he received the call from the morgue?
I can't figure how somebody, maybe Eva, used Patricia's phone to call Alex and then returned it to the waitress

I think you need to re-watch the movie..You're pretty off on both those points

For your first question, there was plenty of time. If Alex was the one who stole the body, then he stole it right when the security guard ran out into the woods. He ran and ran, then got hit by a car and taken to the hospital. That's when the police got involved and went to the morgue. They also spent time trying to call Alex's house (he wasn't home), then calling Mayka's sister and getting Alex's mobile number and then finally calling Alex. So you can see it's going to be at least an hour or two if not more - plenty of time to finish taking the body out and burying it nearby in the woods.

For your second question, when Alex called the restaurant, he asked if it said "redirect" so that's what was happening. The calls were being routed through the phone in the restaurant.
