But how could they kill... (Spoilers)

Soap, wasn't he... the main character?

I mean, you start as him in MW1, he was the one that killed the main two antagonist in the first two games...

Price was cool but he was never the MAIN character, he was more of a mentor to Soap.

Also, Soap's death felt kind of pointless.

I think Price should have died but not before he would have gave Soap his pistol back and tell him to finish off Makarov.

Now THAT would have been a better ending to the series.

reply

Nah, Makarov was the main character, or perhaps Yuri.
How could they kill Yuri!!!!

The guys at IW must have a male crush on Price, or atleast the concept of Price. Every single COD has had a version of the man.

reply

Nah man, this is Price's story all the way.
He's been fighting it for 15 more years than everyone else.

reply

"He's been fighting it for 15 more years than everyone else. "

That´s pretty debatable...

And when Soap is the guy that killed two of the three biggest antagonists in the series, isn´t that main character material?

reply

"And when Soap is the guy that killed two of the three biggest antagonists in the series, isn´t that main character material?"

Exactly!!!^^^

They set up Soap as the main character of the series and then randomly killed him in the middle of the third game?!?! And in such a pointless way. It was stupid...

reply

How is it debatable? Price was the man tasked with killing Zakhaev 15 years before Soap even got into the SAS.

reply

But Soap was the one that ACTUALLY killed him (Zakhaev)...

reply

And to be fair if Price was tasked with killing Zakhaev 15 years before Soap joined then it shows how much Price really does suck. It took Soap less than a year to kill him.
15 years is a very long time to not kill someone, maybe Price was hoping old age would get Zakhaev first.

Actually, it was MacMillan's fault. He said blood loss and shock would finish Zakhaev off and for 15 years no-one heard anything from him until they took Al-Asad's safehouse and interrogated him. Poor judgement on Mac's behalf, not confirming the kill.

I still say this story has been Price's war more than anyone else's. Sure Soap was made out to be the main character but at the end of the day he was a protege of Price!

reply

Rich, don´t take me wrong, but I can´t really follow your logic.

In 1996 Price and Macmillan were tasked with eliminate Zakhaev, because of his growing influence and involment in deals with nuclear materials on the mix.

They "killed" him, and for the next 15 years nobody heard about Imran Zakahev. Awesome story of badassery apart, that mission didn´t have a lasting effect. It wasn´t the start of rivalry or a shadow war. It was an assasination that went well.

I mean, there was history betwenn Price and Zakahev, since Price cost him an arm, but fact his that the journey to the become the man responsible for the nuking of Capital City and the rise of the Ultranationlists began before their encounter.

Don´t get me wrong, i enjoyed the game´s story very much, but if Soap was the one alive, thematically it would have been better. It would be the passing of the torch, the student finally becoming the master.

Well, you're a lot politer than the average IMDber, Guide, so I shall extend you the same courtesy, haha.

I see your point, sir. And I agree with it. But the fact that Price has invested more and been going longer still nails it for me.

Shall we agree to disagree?

reply

I think they killed the main character to say that the Modern Warfare series is over.

Have we got ants then?

reply

"Shall we agree to disagree?"

I can agree with that, my IMDB brosef. Diferent perspectives. Just like the fact that you like BF3 and I like MW3. Neither one of us is wrong in that department, and I guess the same can apply to this subject too.

reply

yes, yes, i could picture it, Price dies and and right before he dies he hands Soap the gun and with his dying breathe he whispers "Finish this."

Yes, much better, and much more meaningful.

reply

I know, right?

It's such a better ending than what we've got...

reply

He was a main character if not THE main character and a fan's favourite. I was gutted they killed Soap and I agree it felt kind of pointless.

reply

He WAS THE main character. Absolutely.

I've always found it strange that they seem to have a fetish for killing off the players characters. Most games, you play the conquering hero & survive to the end. So it was a bit refreshing to finally play a game where you died. But then you die again.....and again......and again....and finally....its gets a bit tedious.
So, even though i have yet to play this game (& probably shouldn't have read this thread), i find it no surprise that another main character dies.
Craig Fairbrass must be getting sick off voicing different characters for the same game/francise :D

The Gunslinger smiled. "On the way to the Dark Tower," he said, "anything is possible."
