I admit I didn't think they'd get a renewal because of demographics. It's for 13 episodes. Kevin Reilly, Turner CEO, has made it clear he wants more "edgier" dramas. Sadly, I see the 13 episodes as the final season with room to end the show. They'll replace it with a demographically correct series.
It is not just demographics or "edgier" dramas (and dont overlook the desire for serialized dramas and not procedurals), the budget that works against the show getting a 7th season. 5/8 of the cast will have played these characters for 13 seasons, this is probably not a typical 6 season show when it comes to how much the actors are making for the series (and that does not include Mary McDonnell). That being said, I still think the show has a shot at getting a 7th season, I see no way the show goes beyond 7 seasons.
It will be sad when the show ends, 6 seasons and 105 episodes would be a great run though, and that would be 13 seasons for many of the characters.
Great news. The show is still excellent and the ratings are still good, I see Major Crimes lasting longer than the Closer.

shareI could see it, because the Closer ended because Kyra Sedgwick wanted to leave it, and Rizzoli and Isles had been in decline for years. With Major Crimes, I don't think anyone is wanting to leave and the writing is still high quality and the fans still love it. Although good shows frequently get canceled and replaced by generic trash that is considered "edgy" or "groundbreaking" by some retarded corporate shill network executive.
shareI'm so pleased to see this news! Not everyone loves trashy edgy series on TV.
I love being able to get absorbed into crime shows without the personal crap getting in the way, and love that major crimes has achieved this- long may it continue. Although it doesn't go unnoticed that many crime dramas tend to get 5-8 series, so here's hoping for a least a few more before it's demise.

I liked The Closer, but I like Major Crimes more. By a large margin.
