Ending question - spoiler!

His lady friend was left all by herself at the hospital? I guess everyone else ventured out somehow? Were we to assume the blocked tunnel was a failed attempt at escape? (like they blew it up and trapped themselves? Cuz they're doctors and patients, not miners)

Maybe I missed something, the netflix streaming was a bit crap today, kept cutting out.

1. I wondered the same thing: why would she stay there all alone instead of follow the gynecologist, which was what she really needed? Unless the medical staff just freaked out and ran away, and she was the one to keep her head. Then there's the question of how she found food in the building for months.

(I ask out of curiosity, not to criticize: I enjoyed it and just saw it today.)

2. I'm also trying to figure out where the kids were going. Hunting? He hugged his parents like he was leaving for more than just a day at school and home again that night, so it implied a long absence.

I enjoyed it too, but that bugged me. I guess gyno's offices are a hell of a lot nicer in Barcelona than here, what with greenhouses and all!

I felt like the long hug indicated this was the first time he was really venturing out into the world (to hunt/forage) Upon meeting these kids, who seemed savvier, he was becoming a part of their group that would ultimately rebuild society. It was like the first day of school for the parents - they knew he was growing up, and going out into the world, they couldn't protect him at home any more.

That's how I took it at least.

Yeah, I think you're right, that was like the 1st day of school, wasn't it? I guess there's some comfort in knowing that though they were armed, they didn't seem especially sinister and were probably hunting animals and not people.

But at first, I thought they might be trouble. I couldn't imagine society getting any better; it only seemed to get worse as the movie went on. (Thinking particularly of the subway station, and also the savage attack on the supermarket.)

Yes, that's what happened. They don't tell us how Julia ended up alone, or how she, Marc and the baby survived until the greenhouse plants grew to maturity. Or, for that matter, how they managed to live on the food from that tiny greenhouse or what they did for protein (rats? pigeons? stray cats?). The ending is not to be taken literally, I think.

I also found it very unlikley that she could survive on her own in a building without food for 3 months - but with this type of story you have to make some allowances and fill in possibilities yourself. There were many other such holes such as how did they still have power after 3 months of chaos?
As for the parting - to me it felt final but others have said it was just like the first day at school as the parents let him go with his new companions to live outside - then he comes home every night with a bag of goodies - a much nicer assumption.

I think it is quite obvious that Julia ate the doctor. Otherwise, there would have not been enough food for her to sustain a pregnancy.
