Someone explain me exactly "V" and "D" segments?

I liked the special effects in V for Vagitus but I didn't got the story very well..
Plus, D for Dogfight was very powerful slow motion cinematography but also I didn't understand how he is the dog owner but he waited a long time to call him by his name..
I also loved X, I, N, R, L, A, S and finally Q.

I can't live anymore without IMDb

I don't think he was the dog owner...I think the man was Buddy the dog.

Say what? No. Buddy was the dog. The man was the owner. Why he waited so long to call his dog's name was kinda odd.
