Inexplicable venom

I've no idea why people are getting so angry about this film. People seem particularly to be offended by the Japanese segments, or just the more off-the-wall stories in general.

Also, people criticising the Gravity section clearly just didn't understand what it is actually about.

I thought ABCs of Death was great. There were some that left me either puzzled or indifferent, but the majority I absolutely loved.

My favourites were Cycle *beep* Fart (made me chuckle), Gravity (grim and eerie), Libido (an assault on the senses), Nuptials (again, made me chuckle), Quack (fantastic dry humour), Speed (love the pull-back and the contrast between the two worlds), Toilet (gruesome), XXL (both heartbreaking, violent and poignant) and Youngbuck (incredibly satisfying).

Some people on the board, it seems, would only have been satisfied with straight-up, linear, gory horror in the traditional sense, and I can't help but feel they're taking the whole thing too seriously. Sure, you might not have enjoyed some of the segments, but surely the point of an anthology like this is to show off the varying aesthetics and imaginations that exist within the capabilities of filmmakers around the world. Again, I think people are taking it too seriously, and the anger present in some of the comments on this board is absolutely baffling. It's human beings creating subversive art. Enjoy it and lighten up, for *beep* sake!

I agree. I love book anthologies though often the stories included are very uneven. I feel this movie lived up to the spirit of those books. There were several misses for sure but there was some good stuff that just wouldn't be given time in the mainstream. Then there was some stuff that was interesting but not worth more than a few minutes and then some stuff you were thankful was only a few minutes.

It reminded me somewhat of "Monkey Dust" and I'm half suspicious that at least one of the stories was done by some of the people from that show. (IMDB tells me I'm wrong though)

What the hell was gravity about??? He surfs then something eats him? Falls in? Somehow the board stays vertical

reply

He committed suicide. Remember he was taking out some bricks or something from his car. The board stays vertical because he is now at the bottom of the sea with his ankle leashed to the board.

Never throw away a chance for happiness too quickly...it can get to be a habit.

Haha, hilariously unnecessary sarcasm. I'm not saying it's deep or has any sort of subtext, I'm saying they literally didn't understand what it was about. As in the narrative was unclear, the storyline was ambiguous, it was difficult to understand what was happening.

Interesting.

Yeah, lighten up and enjoy the mutilation and rape of children and animals. Had they chosen any halfway SANE directors, more than the four or so found here, maybe it wouldn't suck to low hell.

reply

Oh my god it is a movie. Shut up.

I don't see you feeling bad for the poor speed addicted prostitute or how poorly that vampire was treated.

reply

I agree. I'm actually really surprised by all the hate this film gets. I loved it!
