Took way too long to establish it's purpose, and didn't divulge enough about its antagonists. Not to mention, the story was muddled. The performances were top notch, minus wasting the talents of Judi Dench and Allison Janney.
It was better than some of Burton's works, but nowhere near his best. It was middling for.me.
Did you really think Asa Butterfield's "acting" was top notch? I think it was razzie-worthy.
I like Eva Green, but the way she played her part annoyed me from the first second we see her.
Didn't help that the dialogue was cringeworthy at times as well.
On a generous day, I'd give this 3/10 at best!
I found it disappointing as well. Nice cast but not well used and overall felt unoriginal. Missed it when it came out and reply surprised to realize that was five years ago! Good grief - where does the time go?

They possibly thought to cash in on that easy Young teen novel audience who will pay money for anything. Apparently not this!
