Never realised that before! Even when I read the books! No wonder Franklin brushed off Abe's stories as just fanciful tales about the holocaust. Nice touch by Ransom Riggs:) NOT that the holocaust is anything to joke about, but I'm just saying that it was a great technique to make both Franklin and the reader start to doubt Abe's stories until we actually meet the Peculiars.
Me too! I read the first two books two years ago and then Library of Souls last year when it was published, so the Holocaust references there were not as fresh in my head since I don't think that they were as pronounced as they were in the film. However, the film's allusions to it brought it back and like you, I had that "Oh!" moment. ;)
"You better call my agent" "You don't have an agent..." "Then call my cable man!" - Bewitched (2005)
The words are nearly identical and the setting was World War Two, I made the connection right away. Also implied was that the Holocaust transformed ordinary humans into monsters.
