One of the most underrated films of all time!

It's just so great film, and this movie shows us that there's no true love. I love the casts, performances and cinematography. My top 10 of all-time!

Underrated? This movie was super praised! It has like a 98% on rottentomatoes.

It was really good until the stupid shootout at the end.

reply

What? That old Marine sniper was a father figure to Mud, and in the end, had his back.

This movie has a 7.4/10 IMDb rating and a 76 Metascore. That doesn't seem underrated to me.

It's a fun movie, but it is not Earth-shattering or anything. Why do people have to exaggerate a movie? I think a 6 or 6.5 is probably reasonable. To me it was a good, but forgettable movie.

Agreed

Rated properly. It got enough love when it came out (understatement) and it even performed well at the box office.

98% is actually too high. It's a solid 7.0 / 10 flick for me

Saw this recently and while it's decent I just don't think it's some undiscovered gem or whatever. It's alright.

It definitely reminds of the Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn stories. Instead of an escaped slave, it's a fugitive, Tom and Huck are now Ellis and Neckbone, same river boat setting fixated around southern life, etc..etc..

It's not bad but a few things about it are a little far-fetched. Like Ellis just happens to live across the river from one of Mud's closest relatives or whoever that's supposed to be, not sure if they ever make this clear. I know small towns are kind of like this, where everyone knows everyone but still, this part was a little too convenient. Then one day, out of the blue, Ellis just happens to see a girl with a tattoo walking in a parking lot and figures that's the girl Mud is talking about it.

And like a previous poster pointed out, that shootout at the end was not the greatest. It wasn't exactly bad but I just don't think they would do it at someone's house like that.

Plus, it's not likely a 14 year old guy is going to punch someone that much bigger than he is. lol... and Ellis does it several times in this flick.

Still, despite it's shortcomings. it's well acted, the editing is actually VERY good, the story is above average despite it being a little too good to be true. However, I do think it should fall under the category of crime drama rather than just drama. Once you have guns and what appears to be organized crime going on, it definitely falls under the category of crime. Anyhow, I'll give it a 6.3 out of 10. It's worth a look if you like Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey. Beyond this, I don't think there's any reason to watch it.

But if you liked this I would recommend a movie called Wind River (2017). It has a similar feel to Mud but in a cold weather setting and much more realistic with a great ending....
