Mud The Great Gatsby

Does anyone else see parallels btw Mud and Gatsby? It seems like Mud's flaw is that he forever holds onto a romantic ideal that he projects onto Juniper. Very similar to the ideal gatbsy projects onto Daisy.

ya girls betrayal is a lot these days :D

I think betrayal is a reality for everyone. We should always have faith in love though!

I agree that above all is love. Faith and hope are also good, but love is...

I hadn't thought of it at all but it's a great idea. And the go-between kids see a lot more of them than they see of each other, and are constantly having to sort out the lies and rumors from the truth about everyone. And it all ends in gunfire!

If you wanted to do a triple bill, I'd end with Ladyhawk.

YES! and ellis would be a junior nick carroway, a believer in love who is willing to help a complete stranger reunite with his loved one :) mud is a liar, like gatsby, but he *does* love juniper and does everything for her. juniper, in spite of loving mud, is a selfish bitch who is not willing to compromise for him - just like daisy, whose love for gatsby just wasn't enough to get over her fears!

actually, if you think about it, the similarities with the great gatsby are more than a few: the fact that mud is "accross the water" from juniper, just like gatsby lived accross the lake (or whatever) from daisy; the fact that mud apparently dies while falling into water, like gatsby when gets shot in the end and falls into the pool..

Yes, I didn't think of the parallel with Nick. Great insight!

That's an interesting parallel. But one important difference is, of course, that Gatsby was rich and successful, while Mud was dirt poor. That's an important difference - Gatsby became from rags to riches in order to get the girl of his dreams. Mud apparently was not able to do that, all he could do was to kill a man who had wronged his girl. So, both men worked hard for women, but in completely different direction.
