Thank Christ this never got made!

From what i've read Jodorowsky wanted to ditch a lot of what Herbert wrote plus other bad things too like the casting. Lynch's film might have had it's faults but this sounds like an absolute disaster.

Stanley Kubrick's the shining. That's all I have to say.

reply

at least stanley read the book, alejandro admitted that he never read the book. he never read dune, and was proud of it

reply

Kubrick saying he read the book doesn't mean much when his own film adaptation is as accurate to the source as The Bourne Identity is to its own.

reply

sure, good point, but at least being familiar with the original material does make more sense than just ignoring it completely.

reply

Agreed. Jodorowsky is a hell of an artist, but totally the wrong man for the job. I love his surreal films and I even like The Rainbow Thief (the one film where he was forced to make ordinary narrative with a touch of fantasy), but no, I love Dune, I lovescience fiction and I love straight narrative.

It was thanks to this movie never getting made that everyone who worked on it went on to make “Alien.” So thank Christ indeed
