Movie 'we were children'

That movie broke my heart. How could people of the cloth be so cruel, sadistic and evil to young innocent children, how do the sisters and fathers justify the horrid things they did to those little children. One day they will have to stand before a loving caring God and tell their horrendous story. Why did our government ever think this was a good thing to do, rip these young children from their homes and families. I am so sorry this happened to each and every one of you. I hope you can forgive us.

People of the cloth can do things like those depicted in We Were Children because religion is but a veil. Regardless of one's religious indocrination (or lack thereof), in the end it is one's actions that matter. Sadly, integrity is not a universal commodity.

The government was acting from a sense of cultural superiority and an economic imperative. Much like it does now with what remains of the native peoples of North America. It seems almost inevitable that "western" cultural values will continue to seep into native culture as long as there remains the economic imbalance that things like the reserve system put in place a century+ ago. Those that live the culture are supermen and women, those that assimilate are behaving perfectly rationally and understandably, and those that can manage both are amazing.
