Underrated

Okay, I realize that not that many in the U.S. have been exposed to this movie.
In fact, in the theater it was shown, asides from me and two of my own party, there were 2 other people in the audience... which is a shame.

The movie itself is not a stellar Horror monster.. and of course, could not be compared to Alien/s or Jaws.. However, 3/10.. That's quite the misleading rating.. It deserves at least a 6.2

Of course majority of the score would go to the design, special effects and cool use of 3D.. The monster looks pretty good and impressive (except in a few scenes..).. The narrative is what you'd expect from such a flick.. not great but not overly atrocious either.. just well, fair... It is a bit cheesy in places, and does suffer from the 'character does the dumbest possible thing as opposed to the logical and obvious thing to do' moments... And yes, it does borrow heavily from Hollywood cliche's and formula...

But again... 3/10... ?

It's nowhere near The Host, but again, The Host wasn't true Horror-Monster movie... But compare Sector-7 to any recent Hollywood 4-7 rating Monster horror movies, and it easily beats them hands down..

Truly underrated.

It's bad.

It's beyond bad.

Acting is ridiculously bad.

It's perhaps the worst Korean movie I've seen over the last 5 years or so, and I've seen well over 100 Korean movies during that time period, so when I say it's bad, it's bad.

3/10 is about right.

Clearly the movie borrowed heavily from Hollywood monster flicks. This goes without saying. This is exactly why The Host was such a brilliant movie.

I'm not saying that this is a great monster movie, but 3/10 is far too low of a score. 5.0 - 5.3 is fair for this. The acting isn't bad, the script and screenplay were. The two main characters, Ha, Jiwon and Oh Ji Ho are two terrific actor/actress and so are the rest of the crew. Watch them in different movies and Dramas (namely Slave Hunters or Secret Garden). The actors were basically playing off of a badly written script.

It definitely could've been better, but it wasn't this bad.

I'm curious to know if the people that thought that this was underrated were watching the original Korean language version or the subbed version. This may be an entirely different experience for someone fluent in Korean, because the subbing was horrendous. It was like the script was translated using a free online translation program.

However, that doesn't change the fact that the acting was mediocre, dragged down by the typical Asian emoting. The storyline was awfully silly, and a significant percentage of the action sequences were corny.

Sector 7 is currently rated at 4/10, and that's a gift, based on the flick I saw.

I saw it in Korean with subs.
The subs did the job, but from the Person/s sitting with me (fluent in Korea), have stated that the subtitles were amateurish and didn't pass on many of the tongue in cheek gags and other inside discourse. Some obviously could not be translated, while the other could've easily been.

That said, one can tell how the acting is and how the script, narrative and presentation is. Yes, the movie is cheesy and corny many times. It's also Cliche'd and formulaic as-well. It's been seen and done 100 times before.. sometimes better and sometimes worse.

That said, I've seen my share of worse Hollywood monster flicks that were worse and were rated higher. 4/10 is too low in my opinion.
5 - 5.2 is more like it.

I saw a version which was dubbed into English that I downloaded.

I liked it. It had a 1980s action horror film feel to it. The usual man messes with nature, get bitten in the ass for it message.

I'm 45 and I've gotten to the point in my life where I've seen enough films that I recognize all film is derivative to something that came before it.

I think the word you're looking for is "over-blown".

Everything said about cliche and formula is pretty much what the whole thing is about. This is a Korean "horror" flick that wants desperately to be a Japanese anime and fails.

I tired to push through the ponderous "character development" at the beginning, but I had to turn it off after the awful motorcycle sequence ON THE DECK OF A DRILLING RIG. This film is crap.

Saw it yesterday, and liked it. Not great, but worth a chance. It's like Deepstar Six or Leviathan, but better than both.

Loved the final showdown and how both the main character and the creature had to suffer to win, and that all the Chejov guns placed were shot!. Also liked the main character and his uncle.

Worst part were the subtitles, made the dialogues look extremely cheesy (or maybe the dialogues were cheesy) and some of the typical odd Asian acting (comic relief...).

Nice adventure/monster flick.

It was a good time. I have a thing for monster flicks. Especially aquatic monster flicks. They're my bread and butter.

Is it derivative? Yes it is? Is a lot of dialogue and acting corny? It sure as hell is. And yes, some of the CGI is pretty damn weak, but overall it was a fun monster flick. It had a good pace and the action was well staged and fun.

6/10. Not great, but an entertaining time waster.

Rofl better than Leviathan? You are not serious, right?

This Korean pile of steaming dung isn't even worth being mentioned in the same sentence. Or same post. Or same day, or even the same week.

The plot of this Korean movie is a complete joke. The characters are beyond laughable. They ride around on motorcycles on an oil rig. They have a crew of ~10 people for a full-size oil rig. They are all 20 year old kids with an attitude. Yeah, really believable.... oh, did I mention there is apparently a hangar with a submersible, yet when the rig is seen from the outside, there is no such hangar? And I really love how the first 50 minutes are just a total waste of time with ZERO action... I guess we were supposed to "bond" with those sniveling, pathetic pop actors? Please.

This movie is just awful.

It was just all a bit meh.

The interiors looked great, but were no better than "Alien"'s dirty corridors.

The monster was a good piece of CGI, but it looked CGI. Never once did I think that the creature had any physical presence, or that it was in the same room as the actors.

Not one scare in the whole thing, and a couple of times I felt sorry for the monster.

Meh. Watch it if there's nothing else on.
