Authenticity

I watched several episodes of this show one day during a marathon, and it seemed like a totally genuine show. But tonight I happened to walk by while my girlfriend was watching the show "Property Virgins" and I noticed that the young lady in the episode looked exactly like the dark-haired girl from the lesbian couple that Jackson helped. I don't remember her name, but it was the couple that had a weird Bengal-looking cat. The resemblance was too uncanny, so I searched around and found out that "Property Virgins" is a scripted show. Now I can't help but think that "My Cat From Hell" is also scripted. Has anyone else heard any rumors about this?

I too noticed the sinmilarity. It was uncanny - so much so that I checked back to that episode of My Cat from Hell (it still on my DVR.)

It was not the same person but the resemblance was remarkable! Maybe its true that everyone has a twin...

Well, ALL reality shows are at least a little scripted. That's how it works. Even "legit" Discovery and history channel shows are. And by "scripted," I mean they do retakes and tell the cast exactly what to do and talk about. They will feed them lines if they don't like what they're saying on their own.

reply

It's not that they are scripted, its that they are staged. They will do retakes if something didn't come across the way they wanted it to. But, there are a lot of 'reality' shows that are scripted and staged....such as all of the Kardashian shows and most of the 'reality' shows on the E channel, Bravo, Style Network, TruTv, and A&E.

I'm not sure scripting or re-takes are necessary; all they have to do is edit the thing into shape, interspersing narration and commentary. Obviously they'll keep the cameras rolling until they get various "money shots" to mark high points in the drama, such as an upbeat ending.

I'm wondering how many episodes started off but never coalesced into a finished epsidoe with a satisfactory conclusion.

I wonder how many failures he's had. During the intro he says something about being able to help ALL the cats and owners he's met, and sorry, I just don't buy it. Oh, maybe now, since he can now cherry pick the situations that look good, but otherwise, no way.

Well, he has able to help a deaf AND blind cat, so IMO, Jackson walks on water.
What a sweet and wonderful man with a real gift. I've learned quite a bit from him watching the show which has helped in the relationship I have with my cats.

OMG, the deaf/blind cat episode was traumatic to watch, but thank god it had a happy enough ending. Jackson is simply amazing, he's like the feline Cesar Milian.

What I was interested in was whether they had simply scripted the whole thing and hired actors to play the parts, not whether it was edited or re-shot. Obviously most shows stage certain parts, like the scenes where they sit and talk to the camera.
