Sorry, but I just had a hard time believing a 50ish woman would have a 7 year old. Julianna Moore is and always will be beautiful and she's a top-notch actor but what she's NOT is someone who can pass for the mother of a 7 year old.

Women are having children into their 40s. Julianne herself has a 12 year old daughter in real life. You'r the dumb on, not Hollywood.
shareIt wasn't even that uncommon a few decades ago. My mom had my sister at age 40 in 1980, and Gloria Vanderbilt was in her 40s when she had Anderson in 1967.
shareJulianne's character could quite plausibly have given birth to Maisie in her early- to mid-40s. Not uncommon at all these days, and especially when there's a full, demanding career to be dealt with. Maisie might also have been adopted, of course, though it doesn't appear particularly that that's the case. ALSO, the mom was leading (and had been for quite awhile) a pretty hard-driving life, and she smoked and did drugs--all not great for keeping ones youthful appearance.

It's a fair point if the character's 50. Despite what others are insisting downthread, it would be a rarity, and in movies we should shy away from that unless it's part of the plot.
But if she's playing just slightly younger, say 47 (which I would buy), then it's plausible:
At 40, your chance of conceiving within a year is about 40 to 50 percent, compared with a woman in her mid 30s, who has a 75 percent chance. By age 43, a woman's chance of pregnancy plummets to 1 or 2 percent.

The synopsis on wikipedia says they are both in their mid-40s. Julianne Moore's character is a rock-star, and a hard-living one at that, right? So it would make sense that she looks older.
