very meta movie (some spoilers)

it is an absolute meta movie

the script of the movie is the same script Marty (Farrel) writes which is discussed throughout in the movie, which is also in the script (the discussing of the script they are in)

So that's why it is this big mess, because the fiction and the reality of the movie waveing into each other inseparably. The only real fictional figure was the vietnamese priest - who turned out (spiler ahead) being based on the one and only real (I mean real-real) life character.
