Brilliant acting by Juno Temple.

Seriously, she played her part really well. Very convincing with all the mental breakdowns.

Why isn't this film well-known? Bad marketing? It deserves to be more popular.

reply

Just seen it and I totally agree.

She mixed nervous anxiety with shyness and a brooding malevolence beautifully.

Really enjoyed her performance

reply

Agreed. She was fantastic. Cera too.

Why isn't this film well-known?
Why should there be? The ending is terrible and there's no payoff. Why would anyone recommend this other than the good performances?

reply

I agree. It's hilarious when people say she's not a good actress based on her five-minute nude cameo in "Sin City 2". The real question is why she agreed to do a five-minute nude cameo in a movie where lead is that seething cauldron of talent Jessica Alba. It's like if "Sin City" director Robert Rodriquez gave the lead male roles to his buddies Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth and then brought, say, Christian Bale or Matthew McConaghey in to do five-minute nude scene.

You could watch a movie FOR the good performances. Do you always need a brilliant "pay off" at the end? I watched the movie because it's set in Chile, I could watch Juno and Emily Browning dong their taxes for 90 minutes, I like Michael Cera, and I like atmospheric psychological horror movies. But I'm sure I'm the ONLY person in the world like that. . .

I agree that Juno Temple's performance is stellar, but there isn't much else that the film has to offer. M.C.'s performance is pretty good, as well, but the storyline is just terrible. It is nonsensical; it offers almost no explanations, and the ending leaves you hanging.

reply

Yes for Juno and yes for the suck no ending. Not every movie must tied up pretty. But this movie, I would give an 8 for better ending. Alas, it's just 6.

- We REALLY should make Curly Fu happen -

What do you need explained?

We've met before, haven't we?

My thoughts exactly StaunchWoman. It was a simple explanation IMO. She had culture shock and, perhaps, a pre-existing psychological disorder or anxiety disorder too (hence all the meds Brink found in her purse). She ODed on the muscle relaxants, probably not on purpose, but hoping they would give her some relief and help her to feel better. And also, in her fragile state of mind, she probably didn't even realize how many she took.

That is my conclusion to the story, it does make sense.

"Ain't life grand!"
