I actually expected them to be revealed as "died long ago people" whose spirits lived in the house, instead of actual people, as they never seemed to change their outfits.

shareI think it was to represent the fact that they were kind of outsiders pretending to play roles they weren't born for sort of. That sounds really judgmental and classist on my part, but i think it was to do with the fact that once having taken over the household, they were essentially lower-class people pretending to be the people whose lives they'd taken, they were not bringing in new money just living off what was left behind, and as simple brutal savages like all lower classes obviously are, they had no idea of the true way to live as upper class and no means to prolong it anyway. YEs, i should edit that sentence for grammar. No I shouldn't do long stream-of-consciousness sentences. But you get what you pay for. I ain't even gonna reread this to see if it makes sense, so I hope you ge what'm trying to say...
