Way worse than I thought it would be

I had assumed going into it that it would be the kind of movie that is made to let not so smart people feel smart, a dialogue driven concept movie like The Man From Earth or K-Pax.

It became apparent very quickly that it wasn't anywhere near that clever. Then it became apparent that the bunker scenarios were so stupid and arbitrary because they were all just a pretext, pieces in some twist the teacher was going to spring at the end. Then we find out the twist is dumber than the scenarios themselves.

So what we end up with is a very dumb concept movie where the engine to drive the story is the illusion of a slightly less dumb concept movie. I'm not sure if the scenarios are the teacher trying to get the students to come up with a solution for him to avoid killing himself, or if they're only supposed to make the smart girl realize the dumb boy is too dumb for her, or maybe it is both, but either way it doesn't merit the thought I've already put into it.

And how can the girl be so simultaneously smug and wise at the end? She's both a lying philanderer and a fragile ingenue getting statutory raped. Her morality is *beep* yet we're supposed to believe she proved the power of feels over logic.

The dumb boy is the victim of the movie, not the poor, poor suicidal pedo. He's not smart enough to sustain the life of privilege he has apparently been raised in, and his girlfriend evades telling him she loves him and she is perfectly willing to get intellectual "stimulation" behind his back. Her choosing him is not a good thing for him, unless we assume she will support him with her greater earning potential and he's fine being a trophy husband.

I agree too. It's pretty much exactly my thought on this movie, I assumed it might be bad, but it turned out to be worse than I thought.

Spot on with the description too.
