terribly illogical, terribly inconclusive, terribly terrible

spoilers alert.

zimit said that the oxygen lasted even longer than a year in retrospect, which also makes no sense at all. it is his mind game and he also puts himself in the position of the guy that built that thing. as the gamemaster he was even able to dictate when someone will lose their speech or die of cancer, if they are fertile or not .. etc. the more i think about this film, the crappier it gets. not that i liked it in the first place.

just a few more things for now, but i could go on for hours:
1. in his mindgame he is a bunkerbuilder, that builts bunkers all over the world and gives them all the same override exit code? wtf?
2. the bunker lock is nothing more than a digital numbers lock. an electrician will just hack that in 3 minutes. there were 10 people in the bunker. even if they were complete morons, they would have found the 2 cables to connect surge power to the door mechanism.
3. zimit got angry that they would let him in, because he MIGHT bring something unknown to the table. i would have locked him out each and every time. the guy killed a bunch of people in cold blood, even shot one directly into the face out of nothing. yeah, that's the kind of person that you lock in with you for a year.
4. wtf about that love affair? zimit was a despicable person, why would the chick STILL think that they would be great for each other or even start an affair with that moron to begin with.
5. what about the sub mindgame out of a sudden? and how? why? the movie ranged from drama over horror within the runtime and then out of a suddenm this wannabe comedy aspect, but after that immediately drama bs.
6. according to zimit all of those teenagers are unbelievably intelligent, except for the one dude that is only above average. dear filmmakers, how about you show us some of that superiority to make it believable. they were all incredible stupid throughout the whole film.
7. same for zimit. he sees himself as a brainiac and the protagonist chick actually agrees with him, but as far as we see in the film, he is dumb as a doorknob. not even getting his strange mindgame right,.
8.zimit blackmails the protagonist that if she leaves, she will get bad grades. this was beyond bs. he was in love with her, she would simply respond something along the lines of "oh, yeah? then don't ever contact me again". end of discussion.
9. it was just a mindgame, why did the dude she loved was so offended that he was gay in the game? if you play ad&d you won't get personally offended if the dices decde that you are a female dark elf. wtffff?
10. how stupid was the tripple wanded box thing? if zimit was such a brainaiac why would he be dumb enough to mess up the easiest slight of hand trick in the world? when i saw that i immediately knew that he would be doing such thing. also, if the participants are such geniuses, why would such a silly stunt take them so long to figure out.
11. just so that we are clear, this kids study philosophy and nothing but philosophy in a private house in indonesia and the teacher blackmails them that their dreams would shatter if he gave them a bad grade and that they would not get their superdupa dream job? are you facking kidding me? i don't know what job you wanna get by studying philosophy at a private house in indonasia, but let me tell you one thing: banker or lawyer it ain't. "i am very sorry, but we can not hire you as a beach bumming surfing teacher, because your philosophic archievements aren't up to our expectations", or what???
12. the last experiment, when they got out it was said, that because they all had noc real skills, they were about to die because they could not built shelter and get food? and again: WARE YOU FACKING KIDDING MEEEEE? you wanna tell me that a normal person can not learn how to catch a fish or handle a plant or collect fruits and can not figure out how to built tools from stone and wood and the use that to make a shelter? really? i mean, really? they rather chose to wait and die and when a bomb (don't get me startet on the bomb .... which has a detonator button it ... like every rocket explosive does .. or, another time) arrives they will gladly press it to wipe out humanity.
13. even further. they want to detonate a nuclear bomb, but are worried about a dude with 2 bullets that is threatening to kill one of them? why? they are about to kill themselves and they are 10. let him shoot 2, then press the button, there will be 8 people remaining anway.

ok, that was just for starters. maybe more later.

14. there is nothing like unbreakable glass (bunker door). yes, there is safety glass, but it will break sooner or later if 10 people penetrate it over a certain amount of time.
15. let's say the glass IS unbreakable, then the bullets that they fired on it would ricochet and most likely kill the shooter. remember, one chick fired the machine gun on it, from a close distance.

16. the top of the outter shell of the entrance to the bunker is a thin layer of stone, which IS indeed breakable.

17. there is a nuclear fallout. where is the electricity coming from? if it comes from generators, wouldn't switching off the generators disable the doorlock?

That would depend quite a bit of the locking mechanism involved, the power may just be used to control moving parts and sliding the door but if at the end of it there's mechanical locks involved killing the power ain't going to do squat unless they can get to the mechanical bit and manually unlock/unhinge it.

true.

18. So the premise is that after a year it's safe to leave the bunker. In scenario 2, the bombs continue to drop well after the year countdown starts, meaning that the radiation clock is reset every time. When the year is up and they're forced to leave the bunker when their supplies run out, they will all die of radiation poisoning anyway because it will have been less than a year since the last bomb fell.

19. Also in scenario 2, when they all start trying to have babies right away they overlook the fact that had they been successful all the babies would have been born before they could leave the bunker, ensuring everyone's death because there would not be enough resources to sustain 10 people plus however many babies they had.

Also totally agree with all your other points apart from number 1 - technically there would have been a bit more O2 in the bunker because there were only 9 people in there rather than 10.

reply

good points. thank you very much.

oh, yeah, i forgot that they were actually only 9 people. thanks again.

20. the game stopped being "philosophical" as soon as the teacher put himself into the role of gamemaster AND participant. even if he wasn't the game master, him participating actively a player destroyed any integrity.
21. if the main goal for the teacher was to punish his lover's new boyfriend and gave himself unlimited powers within the game, he could just have broken the glass door in the first scenario after being locked out.
22. if the whole thing is hypothetical, can someone please explaine the scenes in scenario one, where the girl checks on the teachers corpse every now and then? how does that work on the side of the real time situation? is the teacher supposed to make that up as well or was there supposed to be actual decisions, made by the pupils? if it was so, then nothing would have turned out the way it was shown.

yeah but the teach was extremely hot. her boyfriend was ugly and dumb, the least attractive of all the male characters. other than that, i agree, it's just one plothole after another. still, i enjoyed watching it, a welcome change to the tired rotation of romcom/cgi fest with no plot/pretentious socio-political oscarbait hollywood keeps spewing out on its conveyor belt. i guess this movie was also prententious, but in a juvenile, less serious way and it was pretty to look at.

23. Radiation stopped by unbreakable glass? It would have to be lead several feet thick. Of course that would ruin the staring at the teacher aspect.

24. The teacher stops the bofriend from detonating the bomb... by shooting the bomb!

And good call - I love the "bomb with built-in-detonator-button" concept. They should all have those! This thread cracked me up.

reply

great points.

no. 23 never even occurred my mind. hahaha, yeah, what was up with the staring anyway? according to the films logic either the girl would have to bring that up in the real life scenario or the teacher, to dictate it happening in the theoretical scenario. wouldn't the other students ask what that crap was about?

hahahaha, yeah, number 24 was sheer comedic genius.

thank you. :D

25. in scenario 3, the teacher survives outside of the bunker. soooo, there wasn't any reason to chose to begin with, now was it???

"laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone." - Dae-su Oh

reply

The chances for survival outside the bunker were far lower and could have been zero had a bomb dropped and detonated.

reply

yes, but if the teacher can make up stuff at will, that renders the whole thing useless. he could just as well say in the first scenario: "ok, i grow to the size of a house and crush the whole bunker with my fists".

There is no need to analyze this movie and point out dumb things, cause either you think it's retarded beyond belief or you somehow don't, although I can't understand how anyone can belong in the latter category.

reply

true. but it is still a whole lotta fun.

Not to mention, what kind of an incompetent bunker builder doesn't allow for power failure by providing a manual means of opening the bunker door?

PS How is it allowed to 'remember' the release code from a previous thought experiment, surely it would have to occur in that particular instance or technically it hasn't happened for them to remember.
