He was off his "meds". They kept spoon feeding us that throughout the movie.
shareExactly what i do not think people understand is this movie is most likely not even about a time paradox but more likely about what someone with extreme mental illness (off their meds) could experience and think is real. I think off his meds he used his mania and paranoia ( everyone is out to get me) and conjured up the time loop to justify having an actual reason to kill his friends (because they are after him) when more than likely every bit of this happened because he had not been taking his meds. I mean I could be wrong, but it's also very possible!
shareWhat about all the scenes we see where creepy things happen but Michael is nowhere around? Are we to think that he was dreaming or imagining them as happening, even though he wasn't a part of them? In that case, everything in the film could be a hallucination and he could be sitting in his room in a mental hospital for all we know. Conventionally - and Mine Games is not an original film at all - when events prove to be hallucinations of an unreliable narrator, we are given clues to that effect and something at the end of the film makes it clear (otherwise, what was the point of using that device?).
